Fire Magic 24 inch Built In Charcoal Grill: adjustable coals for searing and smoking
The Fire Magic 24 inch Built In Charcoal Grill is a built in charcoal grill. Built in means it slides into a cutout in an outdoor kitchen island, so it has no legs of its own. It is for cooks who want charcoal flavor in an outdoor kitchen rather than a patio kettle. Fire Magic builds it in the USA from 304 stainless steel, the grade that holds up best outdoors. A crank handle on the front raises or lowers the charcoal pan, so you bring the coals close for searing or drop them away for slow cooking. It gives you about 430 square inches of cooking space plus a warming rack.
The grates are Diamond Sear grids, thick stainless steel bars with a flat top for clean sear marks. The smoker hood has a vent on each side, so you can close them down and smoke a brisket low and slow. There is nothing to plug in and no gas line to run. Fire Magic covers the grill for five years. The Fire Magic 24 inch Built In Charcoal Grill ships free from My Cozy Outdoors with No Sales Tax (except WY) and the full manufacturer warranty.

FAQ
How do you control the heat on a built-in charcoal grill?
Two ways. A crank handle on the front raises or lowers the charcoal pan, moving the coals closer to or farther from the food, and the smoker hood has adjustable vents on each side to regulate airflow. The dual-position warming rack, 12 inches deep, gives you a cooler shelf for finishing or low and slow cooking.
What cutout does the 24-inch charcoal grill need?
Cut the countertop 25 3/4 inches wide, 19 3/4 inches deep and 12 inches high, the opening listed on this page and in the Fire Magic spec guide linked in the Catalogs tab, which also gives a 26 1/4 inch control panel width. The spec guide lists no insulating liner for the charcoal grills, and the manual asks for 18 inches of clearance from unprotected combustibles such as wood framing, so plan a non-combustible enclosure.
Can I smoke on this grill?
Yes. The stainless smoker hood with side vents is built for it, and the manual describes setting the charcoal shield to one side with wood chips for indirect cooking. Lower the pan with the crank for gentle heat, keep the vents partly closed, and use the 24 by 12 inch warming rack for a second level.
How much charcoal should I use?
The manual says to remove the cooking grids, pile the charcoal on the pan and spread it evenly, never more than one inch above the pan. Too much charcoal can overheat and damage the grill. Light it as your charcoal maker directs, then lower the pan and use the access door to add or spread coals while cooking.
How do you clean out the ash?
Ashes and drippings collect in the drip tray, which slides out after the grill has cooled. Empty the tray and charcoal screen after each use; the manual notes the tray has a heat shield that may need to come out for a full cleaning. Wash the charcoal pan, screen and interior with mild soap and water, then dry the stainless completely.
Does it need a gas or electrical connection?
No. This is a pure charcoal grill with no gas igniter, burners, lights or electronics, so installation is a matter of the cutout, the clearances and a drip path. If you want gas convenience with charcoal flavor, Fire Magic makes a separate gas and charcoal combo grill. See more charcoal grills here.
What is the warranty on the charcoal grill?
The Fire Magic spec guide linked in the Catalogs tab warrants charcoal stainless steel grills for five years, while the charcoal pan, charcoal grid, analog thermometer and ash catch tray carry one year. Coverage applies to the original purchaser with proof of purchase for single-family residential use.
