Fire Magic 30 inch Built In Charcoal Grill: charcoal cooking with an adjustable pan
The Fire Magic 30 inch Built In Charcoal Grill is a built in charcoal grill. Built in means it slides into a cutout in an outdoor kitchen island, so it has no legs of its own. It is for cooks who want charcoal flavor in an outdoor kitchen instead of a patio kettle. Fire Magic builds it in the USA from 304 stainless steel, the grade that holds up best outdoors. A crank handle on the front raises or lowers the charcoal pan, so you bring the coals close for searing or drop them away for slow cooking. It gives you about 540 square inches of cooking space plus a warming rack.
The grates are Diamond Sear grids, thick stainless steel bars with a flat top for clean sear marks. The smoker hood has a vent on each side, so you can close them down and smoke a brisket low and slow. There is nothing to plug in and no gas line to run. Fire Magic covers the grill for five years. Need a smaller grill? See the Fire Magic 24 inch Built In Charcoal Grill. The Fire Magic 30 inch Built In Charcoal Grill ships free from My Cozy Outdoors with No Sales Tax (except WY) and the full manufacturer warranty.

FAQ
How much cooking space does the 30-inch charcoal grill have?
The primary grid is 30 by 18 inches, or 540 square inches, on patented Diamond Sear cooking grids, with a 30 by 12 inch warming rack above it that adds another 360 square inches. The rack adjusts between two positions, which the Features tab recommends for smoking or low and slow cooking over a lowered charcoal pan.
How is the heat controlled without gas?
A crank handle raises or lowers the charcoal pan to bring the coals closer to or farther from the food, and the smoker hood has adjustable vents on each side to regulate airflow. The manual says to spread charcoal no more than one inch above the pan, since too much fuel can overheat and damage the grill.
What cutout does it need?
Cut the countertop 32 1/4 inches wide, 19 3/4 inches deep and 12 inches high, the figure on this page and in the Fire Magic spec guide linked in the Catalogs tab. The manual asks for 18 inches of clearance from unprotected combustibles such as wood framing, and the spec guide lists no insulating liner for the charcoal grills, so plan a non-combustible enclosure.
Can I use it as a smoker?
Yes. The stainless smoker hood with side vents is built for it, and the manual describes setting the charcoal shield to one side, adding wood chips, and cooking indirect on the far side of the grid. Lower the pan with the crank, close the vents partway and use the 12 inch deep warming rack for a second level. See more charcoal grills here.
How is ash removed?
Ashes and drippings fall into a drip tray that slides out from the front after the grill has cooled. The manual notes the tray carries a heat shield that may need to come out for a full cleaning, and it recommends emptying the tray and charcoal screen after each use and washing the pan and screen with mild soap and water.
What is the warranty?
The Fire Magic spec guide linked in the Catalogs tab warrants charcoal stainless steel grills for five years, with the charcoal pan, charcoal grid, analog thermometer and ash catch tray covered for one year, for the original purchaser with proof of purchase in single-family residential use.
