Fire Magic 30 inch Post Mount Analog Electric Grill: knob controls and a base that bolts down
The Fire Magic 30 inch Post Mount Analog Electric Grill is a post mount electric grill. Post mount means the grill head sits on a stainless steel post with a shelf on each side, on a base plate that bolts to a patio or a deck. Fire Magic builds it in the USA from 304 stainless steel, the grade that holds up best outdoors. Electric means it heats with elements under the grates, with no gas line and no flame, so it can go where gas is not allowed. It needs its own 240 volt circuit, so plan on an electrician. It gives you about 480 square inches of cooking space plus a warming rack.
The grates are Diamond Sear grids, thick stainless steel bars with a flat top for clean sear marks. Analog means a temperature knob and a one hour timer knob instead of a touch screen, and it reaches 650 degrees. Keep it out of open rain, since it is electric. Need a lower cooking height? FAQ
How is the analog post grill controlled?
With two knobs on the panel: a TEMP knob for the thermostat, which runs up to 650 degrees F, and a TIMER knob that auto-rotates back to off and shuts the element down when the time runs out. The manual says the timer runs up to one hour and must be turned past 20 minutes to activate for shorter cooks. A red LED shows when the elements are on.
What electrical feed does it need?
A dedicated 240 volt, 30 amp minimum single-phase GFCI circuit breaker, per the Specifications tab and the post manual. Wiring can come up through the post base from underground or through external conduit into the junction box behind the post’s access plate, using 10 AWG or larger conductors and an accessible disconnect. Use a licensed electrician.
How tall is it, and how is it anchored?
This P6 patio post is the standard 37 inch height to the shelf tops; the Fire Magic spec guide lists about 43 1/2 inches with the lid closed and 57 7/8 inches open. The base plate must be anchored to a hard, level surface with the lag shields and screws in the manual’s hardware kit to prevent tipping. Two rigid shelves mount on the post.
How much cooking space is there?
The grid is 30 by 16 inches, or 480 square inches, on patented Diamond Sear cooking grids, with a 30 by 5 inch removable warming rack under a double-walled 304 stainless lid. The manual says to preheat with the lid closed for at least 15 minutes. See more electric grills here.
What comes in the box?
The grill head with its analog TEMP and TIMER knobs, the patio post base with a lag shield hardware kit, two rigid stainless shelves, the drip tray and the double-walled lid, per the post manual’s parts list. Nothing needs a countertop cutout; the base anchors to the patio and the 240 volt feed enters the junction box in the post.
Can it be used in the rain?
No. The manual says never to grill in open rain or standing water because it is an electric appliance, and never to burn charcoal in it. Cover the grill when it is not in use, and to clean the grids run it at 650 degrees F with the hood closed for 10 to 15 minutes to burn off grease.
