Fire Magic 30 inch Firemaster Drop In Charcoal Grill: a charcoal firebox for a masonry island

The Fire Magic 30 inch Firemaster Drop In Charcoal Grill is a drop in charcoal grill. Drop in means it lowers into an opening in the countertop from above and hangs from its rim, so it sits low and flush in the island. It is for a block or stone island built for charcoal. Fire Magic builds it in the USA from 304 stainless steel, the grade that holds up best outdoors. A crank handle on the front raises or lowers the charcoal pan, so you bring the coals close for searing or drop them away for slow cooking. It gives you about 540 square inches of cooking space.

There is nothing to plug in and no gas line to run. The cooking grids are sold separately, so add them when you order. Need a smaller firebox? See the Fire Magic 24 inch Firemaster Drop In Charcoal Grill. The Fire Magic 30 inch Firemaster Drop In Charcoal Grill ships free from My Cozy Outdoors with No Sales Tax (except WY) and the full manufacturer warranty.

FAQ

How big is the 30-inch Firemaster?

The cooking area is 30 by 18 inches, or 540 square inches, in a stainless steel charcoal firebox that lowers into the top of a masonry island. A crank handle raises or lowers the charcoal pan to control the heat, and drippings fall to a drip tray below.

What opening does it need?

The Specifications tab and the Firemaster manual list a cutout 31 1/4 inches wide and 21 1/4 inches deep, with 12 inches from the countertop to the bottom of the unit. The manual requires the whole enclosure, countertop included, to be non-combustible masonry, with 4 inches to a rear wall and 18 inches to any combustible material.

Do I need to buy grids?

Yes. The page says cooking grids must be ordered separately and there is no grid selector on this listing, so contact us to add grids sized for the 30 by 18 inch opening. The firebox, charcoal pan, crank and drip tray are what ship with the unit.

Can I install it under a roof?

Only under non-combustible overhead construction with at least 5 feet of clearance above the cooking surface; the manual forbids use under combustible overhead construction. Keep the area around the grill free of combustibles. More Fire Magic charcoal grills are listed here.

How do you run it?

Pile charcoal on the pan, spread it no more than an inch deep, and light it as your fuel maker directs. Turn the crank to raise the coals for searing or lower them for slower cooking, and use the access to add coals during a long cook. Let the unit cool before emptying the drip tray.
