Fire Magic Choice C430i Built In Grill: a 24 inch gas grill that needs no electricity

The Fire Magic Choice C430i Built In Grill is a 24 inch built in gas grill. Built in means it slides into a cutout in an outdoor kitchen island, so it has no legs of its own. Choice is the value line for a first outdoor kitchen. Fire Magic builds it in the USA from 304 stainless steel, the grade that holds up best outdoors. Two stainless steel tube burners give 46,000 BTUs. It gives you about 430 square inches of cooking space plus a warming rack.

The grates are Diamond Sear grids, thick stainless steel bars with a flat top for clean sear marks, and flavor grids under them turn drippings into smoke and keep flare ups down. The double walled hood holds heat like an oven and lifts with two fingers. It lights with a spark when you turn the knob, so it needs no electricity and no batteries. A dial in the hood shows the oven heat at a glance. On the page you pick natural gas or propane, and it comes built for that gas. Fire Magic covers the burners, the cooking grids, and the body for as long as you own the grill. Need more cooking room? See the Fire Magic Choice C540i Built In Grill. The Fire Magic Choice C430i Built In Grill ships free from My Cozy Outdoors with No Sales Tax (except WY) and the full manufacturer warranty.

FAQ

What makes the Choice C430i the most affordable Fire Magic grill?

The Choice line puts Fire Magic performance in a simpler package: an Aurora-style body with a satin stainless facade, 16-gauge tubular stainless burners in place of cast burners, an analog hood thermometer and turn-to-light ignition. You still get the patented Diamond Sear cooking grids, 304 stainless flavor grids and a double-walled 304 stainless hood that opens 90 degrees on a spring assist.

Does it need electricity or batteries?

No. The Features tab describes turn-to-light ignition with no power required and no batteries to change. The manual explains that pressing a knob and turning it to HI LIGHT creates a click as the spark fires, and it warns against opening more than one valve at a time. A match holder in the drip tray lets you light a burner by hand if needed.

What cutout does this 24-inch built-in grill need?

Cut the countertop 25 1/2 inches wide by 19 1/2 inches deep by 11 1/2 inches high, the figure in the product description and the Fire Magic spec guide, which also lists a 26 1/2 inch control panel width. Use a non-combustible countertop; a combustible enclosure needs the Choice insulating liner, and the manual asks for 18 inches of clearance from combustibles.

How much cooking area and heat do you get?

The primary grid is 24 by 18 inches, or 432 square inches, with a 24 by 8 inch warming rack above it. Two tubular stainless burners supply 46,000 BTUs. The heavy-gauge warming rack adjusts between two positions and is 12 inches deep, which the page recommends for smoking or low and slow cooking.

Can I order it for propane instead of natural gas?

Yes. Choose your fuel with the Gas Type selector on this page before adding to cart: natural gas is model C430i-RT1N and propane is C430I-RT1P. If the propane cylinder will sit inside the island, follow the manual’s cylinder and ventilation section, which calls for a vented enclosure and a regulator and hose assembly rated for the grill.

What warranty comes with the Choice series?

The Fire Magic spec guide linked in the Catalog tab lists the coverage: Choice stainless steel burners, cooking grids and the grill housing are warranted for as long as the original purchaser owns the grill, valves and manifolds for 15 years, flavor grids for 5 years and the ignition system for 1 year, for single-family residential use. See the whole Choice series lineup here.

How long should the grill preheat?

The owner’s manual says to light the burners, turn the knobs to HI LIGHT, close the hood and preheat for about 15 minutes or until the hood thermometer reads your target. It also cautions never to cover more than 75 percent of the cooking surface with griddles, pots or pans, because trapped heat will overheat the burners.
