Real Fyre Charred Oak See Thru: a charred wood fire for two rooms
The Real Fyre Charred Oak See Thru is a vented gas log set for a fireplace that opens into two rooms. It is made for a see through fireplace, one that opens into two rooms, and the logs are finished on both sides so both rooms get the same fire. The oak logs look deeply charred on both faces. They copy wood that has already burned for hours. It is a vented set, so it needs a real fireplace with a working chimney and burns with the damper open. You get the tallest and most natural flames, and most of the heat goes up the chimney. It comes in five sizes, from 16 to 30 inches. Measure your firebox at the front, at the back, and front to back, and if you land between two sizes, take the smaller set.
Each log is molded from a real piece of wood, cast in a ceramic made for high heat with a steel rod inside, and painted by hand. The price is for the logs only. On the page you pick natural gas or propane and add the G45-2 see through burner, in plain or stainless steel. You also pick how it lights: by hand with a match on natural gas, with a knob and a pilot light that stays lit, or with a remote. A Fyreback, a steel panel that stands behind the fire, is optional. FAQ
What does See-Thru mean on this set?
It is built for two-sided fireplaces that open into two rooms at once. Unlike a standard set, the CHD-2’s logs are detailed and charred on both faces, so there is no bare back side facing your dining room while the living room gets the show.
Which burner system does the CHD-2 use?
See-thru sets need see-thru burners: the G45-2, in standard or stainless steel. It is the two-sided version of Real Fyre’s workhorse G45 vented burner, configured so the flame presentation looks right from both rooms. The one-sided G4 and G46 platforms do not apply here.
Can I just use a regular Charred Oak set in a see-through fireplace?
Not recommended. Standard sets are sculpted and painted front-only and sit on one-sided burners, so one room would face unfinished log backs and a lopsided flame. The CHD-2 exists precisely to solve that: the same charred oak artistry, mirrored for a dual-view firebox.
What size do I need for a see-through firebox?
The CHD-2 comes in 16-inch, 18/20-inch, 24-inch, and 30-inch sets. Measure the opening width from both rooms plus the firebox depth. Depth matters more on see-thru installations, since the stack is viewed edge-on from two sides and needs clearance front and back.
Are vented gas logs safe?
Yes, when installed to code: a vented set burns with the damper open, so combustion byproducts exit up the working flue exactly as a wood fire’s smoke does. Use a qualified installer for the gas connection, keep the damper clamped open, and the CHD-2 is as safe as any traditional fireplace.
Do gas logs have to be vented?
Not all do, since vent-free sets exist, but the CHD-2 specifically is a vented product and must run with an open flue. The trade-off is simple: vented sets like this give the tallest, most realistic flames, while ventless sets trade some realism for heat efficiency and closed-damper operation.
What is the 18/20-inch size about?
It is a flexible stack engineered to look right across openings from 18 to 20 inches, which saves you when a two-sided firebox measures oddly from one face. Between it and the 16, 24, and 30-inch options, most dual-opening indoor fireplace designs are covered without custom work.
