Superior BRT4000: an open front B-vent gas fireplace with the look of a real wood fire
The Superior BRT4000 is a B-vent gas fireplace built into the wall. It comes in widths of 36 or 42 inches. Pick the size on the page. You also pick the brick pattern for the inside walls, stacked or herringbone. B-vent means it uses a plain pipe that runs straight up through the roof, like a classic chimney. There is no sealed glass in front, so you sit by an open fire the way you would with wood. A split oak log set sits on a grate over a deep bed of glowing embers, with tall yellow flames. Screens slide out of hidden pockets. It puts out up to 40,000 BTU on the 36 and 45,000 BTU on the 42. It is made for the look of a fire, not as the main heater for the room.
Order it for natural gas or propane. On the page you choose the ignition. Millivolt has a standing pilot and needs no electricity. Electronic ignition lights with a button. You can add glass doors, a remote, and an outside air kit. Want an open fire that two rooms can share? See the Superior BRT40ST see through B-vent fireplace. The Superior BRT4000 ships free from My Cozy Outdoors with No Sales Tax (except WY) and the full manufacturer warranty.

FAQ
What is a B-vent fireplace, and how is it different from direct vent?
A B-vent fireplace draws its combustion air from the room and exhausts through 6 in Type B gas vent that must run vertically and terminate above the roof, like a furnace flue. A direct vent unit instead uses a sealed coaxial pipe that can exit a side wall. The BRT4000 is listed as a decorative gas appliance, so it is bought for the open, wood-fire look rather than as a sealed heater.
Which sizes and heat outputs does the BRT4000 offer?
Two openings, 36 in and 42 in, chosen on the Size selector. The Specifications tab lists 40,000 BTU for the 36 and 45,000 BTU for the 42 on either gas, from the dual aluminized U-tube burner. Framing is 41-1/4 in wide by 40-3/8 in high by 21-3/8 in deep for the 36 and 48-1/4 by 44-3/8 by 23-1/8 for the 42, with corner framing dimensions on the Smart Sheet.
What is the difference between the stacked and herringbone interiors?
They are the BRT43 and BRT45 versions of the same fireplace: BRT43 has a stacked refractory panel interior and BRT45 a herringbone refractory interior, so the choice is purely visual. Pick the pattern on the Brick Pattern selector after choosing the size. Both include the detailed ceramic fiber split oak log set on a grate and a deep glowing ember bed.
Millivolt or electronic ignition, and does it work without power?
Both are offered on the Ignition selector. Millivolt uses a standing pilot, so it lights and runs with no household electricity and is remote-ready; electronic ignition lights the pilot on demand and needs power at the pre-wired junction box. Natural gas or propane is chosen on the Fuel selector, and NG to LP or LP to NG conversion kits are listed under Fuel Conversion.
What does the damper safety switch do?
The BRT4000 has an easy-access flue damper wired to a safety shut-off switch. The manual is explicit: the damper must be locked in the full open position before operating, and if it is not open the fireplace will not light. The gas controls are hidden behind the face, and the mesh screens retract into hidden screen pockets so the opening stays clean-looking.
Are glass doors or an outside air kit included?
No; both are options. Standard bi-fold black glass doors are listed on the Glass Door selector, and the manual approves only doors certified for this fireplace. Because a B-vent unit uses room air, the optional AK4 outside air kit on the Outside Air selector feeds the fire from outdoors; it mounts on the left side with its inlet at least 3 ft below the vent cap.
