Superior BRT40ST: a 40 inch see through B-vent gas fireplace that runs with the power out
The Superior BRT40ST is a see through B-vent gas fireplace. See through means it sits inside a wall between two rooms, and both rooms see the same fire. It is 40 inches wide. B-vent means it uses a plain pipe that runs straight up through the roof, like a classic chimney. A pan burner sends tall flames through an oak ceramic fiber log set on a heavy grate.
It is set up for natural gas, and a propane conversion kit is on the page. The ignition is millivolt, with a standing pilot, so it lights and runs with no electricity at all. It puts out up to 37,500 BTU. You light the pilot once a season and turn the fire on at the valve, or add the remote. Tempered glass and a screen come with it. On the page you can add a buff brick liner for the inside walls, an outside air kit, and a wall switch or timer. Only need one side? See the Superior BRT4000 B-vent fireplace. The Superior BRT40ST ships free from My Cozy Outdoors with No Sales Tax (except WY) and the full manufacturer warranty.

FAQ
What does B-vent mean on the BRT40ST?
It draws combustion air from the room and exhausts through a 6 in Type B gas vent that runs vertically from the top flue collar through the roof, the way a furnace flue does, rather than through a sealed side-wall pipe like a direct vent unit. Because it uses room air, the optional outside air kit on the Outside Air selector helps performance in tight homes.
Will it work in a power outage?
Yes. The BRT40ST uses millivolt ignition with a standing pilot, which the Features tab notes provides continued operation in a power outage; no household electricity is needed to light or run it. The optional hand-held remote on the Remote selector works with the millivolt valve.
How much heat does it produce and how is it framed?
The Specifications tab lists 37,500 down to 27,000 BTU from the pan burner, with framing of 41-1/2 in wide, 41-1/2 in high and 22-3/4 in deep for the 40 in see-through opening. It is a clean-faced heat-circulating design with tempered glass and a protective screen on both sides and an oak ceramic fiber log set on a heavy-duty grate.
What is optional on this fireplace?
The buff rustic liner on the Liner selector, the outside air kit (with or without duct) on the Outside Air row, a two-button on/off or timer remote on the Remote row, and on the Accessories row a wall switch, countdown timer switch, volcanic stone, glowing embers, exterior touch-up paint and a millivolt NG to LP conversion kit. Everything else is included.
Natural gas or propane?
It ships for natural gas. To run on propane, add the millivolt NG to LP conversion kit from the Accessories row, installed by a qualified gas technician following the manual linked in the Manuals tab. Compare it with the direct vent DRT40ST in our see-through fireplaces category.
Why choose B-vent over direct vent for a see-through?
Price and an open, wood-fire look: B-vent models cost less and run a decorative flame with room air, and the BRT40ST needs no electricity at all. Direct vent models like the DRT40ST are sealed, more efficient as heaters and can vent horizontally. Pick the BRT40ST when a vertical vent path exists and ambience matters more than heating efficiency.
