Superior VRT3200: a vent-free firebox with a tall 28 inch opening set low to the floor like masonry
The Superior VRT3200 is a vent-free gas firebox. A firebox is the steel shell that holds the fire. Your builder frames a wall around it and finishes it in stone, tile, or brick. It comes in widths of 32, 36, or 42 inches. Pick the size on the page. The opening is 28 inches tall and sits low to the floor, so it looks like a built masonry fireplace rather than a metal box on the wall. Mesh screens draw across the front. On the page you pick the brick pattern for the inside, stacked or herringbone. The liner is molded from real hand cut brick.
Vent-free means it needs no chimney or vent pipe at all, so it can go on almost any inside wall. It is the firebox only. You add a vent-free gas log set, sold separately, and the logs set the heat. The required heat hood comes with it. You can add an outside air kit. Check your local code first, since some areas restrict vent-free fireplaces. Want the same tall opening without a hood? See the Superior VRT3500 vent-free firebox. The Superior VRT3200 ships free from My Cozy Outdoors with No Sales Tax (except WY) and the full manufacturer warranty.

FAQ
What is special about the VRT3200 opening?
It is a 28 in tall, full-width opening set low to the floor, so it reads like a traditional masonry fireplace rather than a raised metal box. The refractory brick liner is molded from hand-cut firebrick in a stacked or herringbone pattern, chosen on the Brick Pattern selector, and mesh draw screens finish the look. The required heat deflection hood is included.
Does it come with a log set?
No. It is a firebox only; choose any listed ANSI Z21.11.2 vent-free log set from our ventless gas logs range to suit the 32, 36 or 42 in opening. The vent-free logs brochure linked in the Manuals tab lists the Superior sets and the minimum firebox sizes each one needs.
Which sizes are available and how are they framed?
32 in, 36 in and 42 in models on the Size selector, all at the same base price with the pattern priced per size. Framing is 38-1/4, 42-1/4 or 48-1/4 in wide, 40-1/4 in high and 20-1/2 in deep. The Specifications tab lists WS and WH versions, which are the stacked and herringbone liners.
How much heat does it give off?
The output comes from the log set you install, up to the 40,000 BTU per hour limit for vent-free log heaters, and the room must pass the ventilation-air check in the installation manual. The VRT3200 is a radiant smooth-faced box with no blower option, so heat comes off the opening and the refractory mass rather than a fan.
Does it need a chimney or vent?
No. A vent-free firebox needs no flue, which keeps the low masonry look uninterrupted and makes it easy to add during a remodel. It draws combustion air from the room, so local vent-free rules apply; the Outside Air selector adds a ducted kit that feeds the burner with outdoor air.
What finish options are there?
Stacked or herringbone refractory brick on the Brick Pattern selector, a black powder-coat exterior, and exterior touch-up paint on the Accessories row for after installation. There are no door or blower rows on this model; its radiant smooth-faced design is meant to be finished flush with your surround.
