Superior WCT6940: a big EPA certified wood burning fireplace that heats up to 2,500 square feet
The Superior WCT6940 is the largest wood burning heater fireplace Superior makes. EPA certified means it burns wood so cleanly and completely that it counts as a heater, not just a fireplace. The sealed, insulated firebox holds four cubic feet and takes logs up to 30 inches long. That lets it burn long into the night between loads. A catalytic combustor burns the smoke a second time for more heat from every log. A bypass lever opens the flue wide for fast starts and keeps smoke out of the room when you reload. Steel double doors with ceramic glass give you a view of the whole fire. An air wash keeps the glass clear. It puts out up to 80,000 BTU and heats up to 2,500 square feet.
A variable speed blower and the outside air kit come with it. The chimney pipe is sold separately, so ask us to quote the run. On the page you pick the black front and the black double doors. Both are required, and the handles stay cool. You can add a forced air kit that ducts warm air to other rooms. Heating a smaller space? See the Superior WCT6920 EPA wood burning fireplace. The Superior WCT6940 ships free from My Cozy Outdoors with No Sales Tax (except WY) and the full manufacturer warranty.

FAQ
How big is the WCT6940 firebox and how much heat does it give?
A spacious 4.0 cu ft insulated firebox that takes logs up to 30 in, rated 80,000 BTU and heating up to 2,500 sq ft per the Features tab, which makes it Superior’s largest EPA-certified wood fireplace. Framing is 46-1/4 in wide, 49-3/8 in high and 27-1/2 in deep.
What is the catalytic combustor for?
It re-burns smoke for maximum efficiency and long, clean burns. A bypass control opens for greater airflow during start-up so wood lights faster, and prevents smoke spilling into the room when you reload; the air wash keeps the ceramic glass clean. Follow the manual linked in the Manuals tab for catalyst care.
What do I need to choose?
The black facade on the Facades row and the black steel double doors on the Doors row are both required picks, with heat-resistant handles that stay cool. The Damper (BISBD) row adds forced-air duct parts (5 in flex in 15 ft or 25 ft and a 120 V heat/cool thermostat) if you want to duct heat to another room.
What is included?
The insulated outside air kit, required for use, a heat-activated 200 CFM variable-speed blower for time-delayed heat distribution, stacked textured refractory panels with an integrated ash lip and a decorative cast iron log retainer. The Snap-Pak chimney is quoted separately. See more wood burning indoor fireplaces.
How is it vented?
Through the IHP Snap-Pak chimney system shown on the Smart Sheet in the Manuals tab, sized and routed by a qualified installer from the installation manual linked there, which also sets clearances and the hearth requirement. A dedicated outside air connection is part of the install.
Is it a fireplace or a heater?
Both: it has the masonry look of a traditional fireplace with double doors and arched facade, but it is an EPA variable-rate certified wood heater that burns with the doors closed and pushes heat into the room with its blower. For an open-hearth look without heating performance, Superior’s WRT series is the alternative.
