Maywood Fire Pit in Corten steel: a large fire pit that weathers into its own finish
The Outdoor Plus Maywood fire pit in Corten steel is a large rectangular gas fire pit that arrives as raw steel and settles into a deep, even rust finish over its first months outside, after which that layer protects the metal for good. Choose 60, 72, 84, or 96 inches.
Order it for natural gas or propane. The Maywood lights with a match only. The burner, fire pan, hose, fittings, and lava rock are included; a key valve, wind guard, lid, cover, and fire glass are optional. Set it over gravel the first season, since early runoff can mark pale pavers. Want a fixed color instead? See the Maywood fire pit in powder coat. The Corten Maywood fire pit ships free from My Cozy Outdoors with No Sales Tax (except WY) and the full manufacturer warranty.

FAQ
Does the Corten Maywood arrive already rusted?
It arrives at the start of the process — raw weathering steel that begins developing its oxide patina as soon as it lives outdoors. Within weeks the Maywood shifts toward russet; within months it settles into the deep, even Corten finish that seals and protects the steel for good.
Should I protect my patio while it weathers?
Smart move, yes. Early-stage Corten sheds oxide in the rain, and that runoff can shadow light-colored pavers under a piece as large as the Maywood. Cure it over gravel first, site it on dark stone, or put a sacrificial barrier down for the first season — after that, runoff largely stops.
What sizes does the Corten Maywood come in?
60-inch (OPT-MYWCS60), 72-inch (OPT-MYWCS72), 84-inch (OPT-MYWCS84), and 96-inch (OPT-MYWCS96). The Maywood is a large-format design across the board, and Corten suits that scale — a 96-inch expanse of weathered steel with a ribbon of flame is landscape architecture, not just a fire pit.
How do you light a match-lit fire pit?
Simply: open the Maywood key valve about a quarter turn, reach a long-stemmed lighter or fireplace match to the burner through the lava rock, and the flame catches immediately. Adjust height at the valve. Match Lit is the only system on this model — nothing electronic to fail or maintain.
What components are included?
The Corten Maywood ships with its fire pan and plate burner, mounting bracket, a fuel-specific orifice for your natural gas or propane build, whistle-free hose, and lava rock media. Everything for the fire is in the box; the gas connection is the licensed installer part.
Can I change fuel types after buying?
Choose carefully upfront instead — The Outdoor Plus builds every Maywood to order for Liquid Propane or Natural Gas, specified at purchase, as with all of our gas fire pit models. If an existing installation needs to change, contact us about your unit before altering anything.
How much clearance does a piece this big need?
Start with the standard ten-foot guideline from structures, then remember the Maywood geometry: on a 96-inch unit, the flame zone spans most of eight feet, so measure clearances from the burner extents and rim, not the center point. Local fire code gives you the binding numbers.
