Detroit Radiant DSS: electric patio heat with a mild white light
The Detroit Radiant DSS Electric Patio Heater is a slim black patio heater about 35 inches long. Its carbon fiber lamp gives off heat and a mild white light. Radiant heat warms people and surfaces directly, like sunshine, instead of warming the air. It is approved for outdoor use at home, including a covered porch or balcony. The housing resists rain and dust.
Choose 1,500 watts at 120 volts or 2,500 watts at 230 volts on this page. The 120 volt version comes with a cord and plug. The 230 volt version comes with a cord but no plug, so an electrician makes the connection. Then choose with or without a remote. Agriculture
Low intensity radiant tube brooders and high intensity brooders.
Infrared heaters are widely used in swine, poultry, brooder and dairy barns because they have a long record of proven results. Two stage heaters add efficiency and several benefits: lower running costs, less on and off cycling, more fuel saved, the ability to change the heat output, and better animal comfort. The result is better animal performance, less fuel burned and a longer heater life.

Aircraft Hangars
Heat large, hard to heat areas.
Gas fired infrared heaters heat efficiently because they warm exactly what needs to be warm: people, floors, walls and other surfaces, instead of the air. That suits hangars with huge air volumes or lots of air movement, where warm air heating is wasted because it must first heat all the air, which rises before anything else does.
Equipment selection: high BTU tube heaters or high intensity models are made for high mounting spots like hangars. Two stage heaters recover the heat lost through the big doors, then cycle less during normal operation. Most of the heat should be concentrated near the main door with burner boxes or extra heaters. ANSI/NFPA 409 calls for the heater to sit at least 10 feet above the highest wing surface of any aircraft stored inside.

Automotive
Efficiently heat open door service areas.
Most service garages and vehicle maintenance shops have a lot of open door area for their size, and cold vehicles keep rolling in. That makes infrared the economical way to heat the space. When placing heaters, keep them away from overhead doors and vehicle lifts, keep the published clearances from hose reels and exhaust collection systems, and never put a heater inside a paint booth. In smaller areas where tube heaters are not practical, a forced air unit heater can fill in.
Detroit Radiant recommends low intensity tube heaters with outside air supplied to each heater where degreasers, parts washers or rust proofing are used, plus mechanical ventilation at floor level, since most chemical fumes are heavier than air. Most centers use 75,000 to 150,000 BTU tube heaters in a perimeter layout, with extra units or burner boxes stacked at the door areas.

Car Washes
Save energy while heating harsh environments.
Short tube heaters with high BTU ratings, or small to mid size high intensity heaters, are the efficient choices for a car wash. Most car wash heating systems are designed to protect against freezing and to spot heat employees, so the heaters are best placed at the ends of the tunnel. Millivolt controls are the usual pick for equipment rooms, if shielded from the wind, so freeze protection keeps working during a power outage.
Stainless steel, silicone sealant, waterproof controls and electrical attachments are recommended, and two stage operation adds further energy savings.

CNG Facilities
Heating vehicle maintenance facilities.
Natural gas is an affordable, abundant fuel for fleets, and Detroit Radiant has the experience to heat compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicle maintenance facilities. The company offers a range of options and can usually turn around concept drawings within a few days.
CNG shops must comply with special requirements such as NFPA 30A, which says the heater surface temperature must not exceed 750 degrees F. Detroit Radiant's CSA design certified heaters meet the construction criteria the code requires. When the space needs more burners than will fit, the engineered HLV vacuum system can be used in the design.

Outdoor
Gently warm people and furnishings, not the air.
Whether you want to extend the outdoor season, heat a designated smoking area or add room for peak crowds, Detroit Radiant's range has an outdoor heater to fit.
- Air movement: wind, even a light breeze, is the biggest variable in outdoor comfort. Barriers such as wind curtains are highly recommended wherever possible, but always keep the clearances to combustibles.
- Mounting heights: outdoor and spot heating usually means mounting the heater lower, closer to the people. A lower mount covers less area but gives a more focused heat pattern, so the final height may need adjusting to get the result you want.
- Your expectations: there is rarely a one size fits all answer. Maximum comfort in extreme conditions takes more heaters; taking the chill off a smoking area for a few minutes takes fewer.

Spot Heating
Heating only a portion of a building? Detroit Radiant offers great options.
When only part of a building needs heat, consider spot heating. Both high intensity infrared heaters and low intensity tube heaters suit it. Tube heaters are usually placed in a U shape for spot heating: the U puts the hottest tube next to the coolest tube for even comfort and gives the most flexibility in placement.
High intensity heaters are usually easier to install and cheaper for spot heating. They are especially suited to buildings that are poorly insulated, loosely built, have high ceilings or lose a lot of heat per square foot.

Warehouses
Strategically placed for the best coverage of the space.
Detroit Radiant offers many cost effective options for heating a warehouse. When choosing equipment, consider the warehouse type, its size, the mounting heights, the level of insulation and any other design features that affect the heater choice. Tube heaters give plenty of placement options with regard to clearances and are usually thermostat controlled.
Place warehouse heaters for the best coverage: a perimeter layout, or a series of heaters between rows of storage racks. Whatever the layout, mind the clearances to combustibles, especially above and below the heater where stacked goods are a concern. Detroit Radiant recommends warning plaques (part PLQ) to advise users of the clearances and stacking limits.

Which DSS model do I need?
Pick the voltage first. The 120 volt model gives 1,500 watts and comes with a cord and plug for an ordinary outdoor outlet. The 230 volt model gives 2,500 watts and comes with a cord but no plug, so an electrician makes the connection. Then choose whether you want the remote; the -NR versions are the same heater switched on and off at the wall.
Is it approved for a home?
Yes. The DSS is ETL listed for outdoor residential use as well as indoor and outdoor commercial use, and the enclosure is IP55 rated against rain and dust. Detroit Radiant still advises fitting some protection above the heater to extend its life.
How big an area does it warm?
Detroit Radiant’s design guide rates the 1,500 watt model at roughly 75 square feet mounted 6 to 8 feet up, and the 2,500 watt model at about 120 square feet mounted 7 to 11 feet up, with heaters spaced 3 to 9 feet or 1 to 11 feet apart. Those are approximations: wind and mounting height change the result.
What does the remote do?
The remote gives three power settings on the 120 volt model and four on the 230 volt model, plus a timer, and one remote can run several heaters. Without the remote the heater is on or off from a switch, timer or thermostat an electrician supplies; the SWPD-4H twist timer and TH-1A66 thermostat are the usual choices.
What are the clearances?
Mounted level, keep 13 inches to the sides, 11 inches at the ends, 4 inches above and 50 inches below combustibles. Tilted 45 degrees the front clearance grows to 37 inches, with 2 inches behind, 5 above and 35 below. The bracket in the box is for level mounting. The manual and the label on the heater always take precedence.
What is in the box and what is the warranty?
The heater with its carbon fiber lamp fitted, the mounting bracket, the remote on models that include it, and the cord (with a plug on 120 volt models). All components carry a one year limited warranty. Detroit Radiant offers a factory lamp repair or core exchange service if the lamp ever fails.

We purchased the 3-person sauna for our outdoor garden. We chose the cube sauna for the aesthetic and could not be happier.
I assembled by myself except for the 2 large panels (requires a few people). Instructions were good - took me two partial Saturdays to complete and a few hours to unpack and organize in advance of assembly. Had my elec. add a NEMA enclosure on the back for the controller and power for lights and a 2nd panel for the wireless control.

We absolutely love the CL7G. It is extremely comfortable for 6 people (can fit more less comfortably). The Thermory Spruce and Aspen in the interior smells great. The lighting is lovely. We paired the CL7G with the Harvia Spirit 10.5kw.

Smoking Hot Tub!
I got the Norse Steam SaunaLife wood-fired hot tub, the S4N model, and its been seriously great. It heats up quicker than I expected, usually around an hour and a half, and once its hot, it stays that way for a good long while. The wood-fired system is simple to use, and honestly kind of fun.
The tub itself feels solid and well put together. The thermo-spruce exterior looks beautiful in person, and the fiberglass interior is smooth, deep, and easy to clean. Its the kind of setup that just works without a bunch of fuss, which I really appreciate.
Also, the team at Norse Steam was genuinely great to work with. Super helpful, quick to respond, and made the process really easy from start to finish. It felt like they actually cared that I was happy with it. The tub has totally become a go-to way to unwind, and I wouldnt change a thing.

Great sauna and great customer service
We purchased the Finnmark SD-1 sauna. Maya was extremely helpful with the purchase. We had an issue with the sauna not reaching the maximum temperature, and Maya connected us with the appropriate technician that explained how to correct the issue. The sauna now heats to the maximum temperature (170 degrees) in less than an hour, and it is a great unit.
