The DuraVent DirectVent Pro Horizontal Termination Kit C is a venting kit for a gas stove vented through a wood framed wall. It includes a 90 degree elbow, a 24 inch pipe, a pipe extension, and a room side cover, all in black. Its two piece wall thimble lines the framed opening and fits the square horizontal cap. This kit fits only 4 by 6 5/8 inch DirectVent Pro. DirectVent Pro is DuraVent’s pipe inside a pipe vent for direct vent gas fireplaces and stoves: exhaust goes out through the inner pipe and outside air comes in through the outer pipe.

Canada requires a two piece wall thimble. The pipe joints twist together without gaskets or sealant unless the appliance maker specifies otherwise. DirectVent® Pro is a unitized, coaxial (concentric) venting system designed for use with direct vent gas or propane stoves, heaters, and fireplaces.

Materials and Construction

.020″ aluminum inner wall.

.018″ galvanized steel outer wall.

Painted outer walls made of laser-welded .018″ galvalume steel. Caps also available in stainless steel and copper. Outer pipe brings combustion air to the appliance. Inner pipe exhausts flue gases to the outside. Gaskets or sealants not required (unless specified by the appliance manufacturer).

Planning Your Installation:

For vertical gas stove installations, measure the height from the stove outlet to the ceiling to determine the length of black pipe required. Select a ceiling support/wall thimble cover or a cathedral ceiling support box.
To determine the length of galvanized pipe required, measure the ceiling thickness and the vertical rise in an attic or second story. Firestops are required at each floor level beyond the first floor ceiling support/wall thimble cover or cathedral ceiling support box. If an offset is required to avoid obstructions, use a pair of 45° elbows. For proper support, use elbow straps with offsets. Use wall straps for long vertical runs. Attic Insulation Shield is required in attic.
Measure the roof pitch. Select the proper flashing and storm collar. Determine the minimum height above the roof.
For horizontal installations, check the appliance manufacturer’s instructions for minimum rise and maximum horizontal run. A snorkel termination may be used if height restrictions prevent adequate rise above the appliance. Select the appropriate Horizontal Termination Cap (see appliance manufacturer installation instructions). To protect vinyl siding, select vinyl siding standoff. Check appliance manufacturer’s instructions for wall thimble and firestop requirements.

Design Recommendations

The following design recommendations are general guideline to assist in the design and selection of venting components for your installation. Always follow Duravent Installation instructions enclosed with the cap or support box before installing your chimney system. Installation instructions can be viewed online at www.duravent.com, under Catalogs and Instructions. Important: Check the manufacturer’s rating plate and instruction manual to confirm that the Duravent direct vent system is approved for use on the brand name appliance you have selected.
The inner and outer pipe diameters should match the outlet size of the appliance.
Check the appliance manufacturer’s installation instructions to confirm which types of vent configurations are permitted (i.e. horizontal, vertical, chimney reline, etc.). Also, check for any venting restrictions such as maximum horizontal run, minimum and maximum vertical rise, maximum offset, etc.
Be fire safe! Maintain at least the minimum clearances (air-space) between the vent pipe and nearby combustibles, as specified in the appliance manufacturer’s installation instructions. Use proper support and bracing. Follow local building codes and have your venting system inspected.

What is in Horizontal Termination Kit C, and how is it different from Kit A?

Kit C contains everything in Kit A, a 90-degree black elbow, the Ceiling Support/Wall Thimble Cover, a 24-inch black pipe and an 8-1/2-inch black pipe extension, plus the 46DVA-WT Wall Thimble. Choose C when the stove manual requires a wall thimble through a combustible wall. Neither kit includes the termination cap or the horizontal pipe run.

What does the wall thimble do?

It lines the opening where the vent passes through a framed wall, keeping the required air space between the hot pipe and the combustible framing, and the Wall Thimble Cover trims the inside. DuraVent’s table sizes the 46DVA-WT for a 10 by 10 inch framed opening. Through masonry, brick or concrete a zero-clearance opening may be allowed by the appliance manufacturer instead.

Which cap and how much horizontal pipe do I add?

The stove or fireplace manual names the approved DirectVent Pro termination cap for that model. The horizontal length equals the wall thickness plus the stove’s required rear clearance from the manual, so add pipe or an adjustable length accordingly; the 24-inch pipe and extension in the kit handle the vertical rise between the stove collar and the elbow.

Which pipe size is this kit?

It is 4 x 6-5/8 inch DirectVent Pro, the coaxial vent for direct vent natural gas and propane stoves, heaters and fireplaces with a 4-inch exhaust and 6-5/8-inch outer air pipe. Confirm on the appliance rating plate that DuraVent DirectVent Pro is approved; 5 x 8 appliances need the larger size, which uses different kits.

How is the horizontal run installed?

Keep it level or rising 1/4 inch per foot toward the cap, never sloping down, and support it at least every 4 feet. Sections twist-lock with an eighth turn; no sealant is required unless the appliance manufacturer specifies it, and screws are optional as long as they stay out of the inner wall. The cap is sealed to the wall with non-hardening silicone.

How far from soffits and openings does the cap have to sit?

DuraVent requires 12 inches above grade or a deck, 12 inches from windows and doors, 18 inches below a ventilated soffit that projects 2 feet, 12 inches below an unventilated soffit, and 6 feet from a gas regulator vent, with local codes taking precedence. On vinyl siding add a DirectVent Pro Vinyl Siding Standoff.

We purchased the 3-person sauna for our outdoor garden. We chose the cube sauna for the aesthetic and could not be happier.
I assembled by myself except for the 2 large panels (requires a few people). Instructions were good - took me two partial Saturdays to complete and a few hours to unpack and organize in advance of assembly. Had my elec. add a NEMA enclosure on the back for the controller and power for lights and a 2nd panel for the wireless control.

Norse Steam, and specifically Maya, were extremely helpful as I was making the decision for our Sauna. I was able to get all of the necessary details to make a decision as construction was happening in my backyard to make space for it.

Smoking Hot Tub!

I got the Norse Steam SaunaLife wood-fired hot tub, the S4N model, and its been seriously great. It heats up quicker than I expected, usually around an hour and a half, and once its hot, it stays that way for a good long while. The wood-fired system is simple to use, and honestly kind of fun.

The tub itself feels solid and well put together. The thermo-spruce exterior looks beautiful in person, and the fiberglass interior is smooth, deep, and easy to clean. Its the kind of setup that just works without a bunch of fuss, which I really appreciate.

Also, the team at Norse Steam was genuinely great to work with. Super helpful, quick to respond, and made the process really easy from start to finish. It felt like they actually cared that I was happy with it. The tub has totally become a go-to way to unwind, and I wouldnt change a thing.

Great sauna and great customer service

We purchased the Finnmark SD-1 sauna. Maya was extremely helpful with the purchase. We had an issue with the sauna not reaching the maximum temperature, and Maya connected us with the appropriate technician that explained how to correct the issue. The sauna now heats to the maximum temperature (170 degrees) in less than an hour, and it is a great unit. We are very happy with it, and we would definitely purchase from NorseSteam if we needed any other items.
