Majestic Royalton: an open wood fire with a brick interior
The Majestic Royalton is a wood burning fireplace built into an indoor wall. It comes 36 or 42 inches wide. Pick the size on the page. The opening is 21 inches tall, with brick panels around the fire. It is an open fireplace with no glass, so nothing sits between you and the fire. Radiant means the heat comes straight off the fire, with no fan to wire or run. An ash lip keeps ash off the floor. A hidden smoke shield guides smoke up the chimney.
Your builder frames a wall around it, runs the chimney, and finishes it in stone, tile, or brick. The chimney pipe is sold separately, so ask us to quote the run. On the page you pick the size. You can add folding glass doors and an outside air kit that supplies air for the fire. It can also take a Majestic gas log set, which you can add on the page. Want another wood burning option? FAQ
What sizes does the Royalton come in?
The Size selector covers the BE36 with a 36 by 21 inch opening and the BE42 at 42 by 21 inches. Both are 39-1/2 inches tall and 21-3/8 inches deep, the shallowest of the Majestic wood units here, which helps when the chase cannot project far into a room. Spec sheets for each are in the Manuals tab.
What comes in the box?
The owner’s manual describes an integral grate, a firescreen to control sparks and the front damper handle that locks open or closed. Glass doors are optional; the Fronts and Doors selector offers bi-fold doors in black or stainless for either size, and their price appears on the selector so you can add them to the order.
How do the ash lip and smoke shield help?
The Features tab explains the ash lip keeps ash from spilling off the hearth onto the floor, and the invisible smoke shield guides smoke up the chimney instead of into the room. Together with the front-mounted damper handle they make daily use tidier than a bare masonry firebox.
Is an outside air kit required?
The owner’s manual lists outside air as optional for this unit but notes it supplies combustion air, and the architect guide reserves space for the duct. The page sells an outside air kit without flex, flex duct in two versions and a chimney air kit for SL300 chimney; add whichever your installer specifies in the order flow.
Can I burn gas logs in it?
The manual allows vented gas log sets when the damper is locked fully open and provisions are made at installation; it also says do not install unvented gas logs in this fireplace. So a vented set is possible later, but plan the gas line and outside air during the build rather than retrofitting them afterward.
How much hearth extension does it need?
The architect guide shows a hearth extension over 1/2 inch Micore or equivalent insulation, 16 inches in front and 8 inches beyond each side of the opening, and 4 inches minimum from the bottom of the opening to the hearth surface. The page offers a hearth extension kit. Other wood burning indoor fireplaces have similar layouts.
What kind of wood should I burn?
Dry, seasoned firewood only, per the owner’s manual: wet or unseasoned wood produces less heat and builds creosote, and the manual’s troubleshooting says a smoky fire usually traces back to wet wood or a damper that is not fully open. Keep the damper open whenever a fire is burning.
