Superior WCT4920: an EPA certified wood burning fireplace that heats up to 1,500 square feet

The Superior WCT4920 is an indoor wood burning fireplace that works as a real heater. EPA certified means it burns wood so cleanly and completely that it counts as a heater, not just a fireplace. The sealed, insulated firebox holds two cubic feet and takes logs up to 19 inches long. You control the fire with an air lever, and an air boost helps get the wood burning quickly at startup. Ceramic glass in the door lets heat pass into the room, and an air wash keeps the glass clear. It puts out up to 55,000 BTU and heats up to 1,500 square feet. Your builder frames a wall around it and finishes it in stone, tile, or brick.

A variable speed blower and the outside air kit come with it. The chimney pipe is sold separately, so ask us to quote the run. On the page you pick the front, louvered or clean face, with a square or arched opening, and the door, in steel or cast iron. Both are required, and the handle stays cool. You can add a HeatFlo kit that ducts warm air to where you want it. Want the arched front and cast iron look in one package? See the Superior WCT6920 EPA wood burning fireplace. The Superior WCT4920 ships free from My Cozy Outdoors with No Sales Tax (except WY) and the full manufacturer warranty.

FAQ

What does EPA certified mean for the WCT4920?

It is an EPA variable-rate certified high-efficiency wood heater, not an open decorative fireplace: a sealed 2.0 cu ft insulated firebox with air combustion control, an air boost for start-up and an air wash that keeps the ceramic glass clean. The Features tab rates it at 55,000 BTU heating up to 1,500 sq ft, so it is bought as a heater that happens to look like a fireplace.

What do I have to choose on the selectors?

A facade and a door, both required: the Facades row offers louvered arch-open, louvered square-open or clean-face square-open (which needs the HeatFlo kit), and the Doors row offers a steel square-pane door, a smooth steel arched door or a cast iron arched door, all with handles that stay cool. The HeatFlo convection kit and forced-air duct parts are optional rows.

What is included in the box?

The insulated outside air kit, which is required for use, and a heat-activated 200 CFM variable-speed blower for time-delayed heat distribution, plus smooth refractory panels with an integrated ash lip and a steel log retainer. The chimney (Snap-Pak system per the Smart Sheet in the Manuals tab) is quoted separately.

What size logs does it take?

Up to 19 in logs in the 2.0 cu ft firebox, per the Features tab, which suits standard 16 in firewood with room to spare. Controlled combustion means longer burns per load than an open fireplace, and the bypass-free non-catalytic design keeps operation simple. Framing is 37-1/4 in wide, 56 in high and 25-1/8 in deep.

Can it heat other rooms?

Yes. The Features tab lists a HeatFlo air kit and a thermostatically controlled forced-air kit with up to three outlets, and the Damper (BISBD) selector carries the 5 in flex duct in 15 ft or 25 ft lengths and the 120 V heat/cool thermostat for that system. The forced-air duct instructions are linked in the Manuals tab. See more wood burning indoor fireplaces.

How does it differ from the WCT6920?

Same 2.0 cu ft EPA firebox, 55,000 BTU rating, included blower and outside air kit; the WCT4920 offers square or arched facade and door combinations with smooth refractory panels, while the WCT6920 is the traditional arch-front version with stacked textured panels, a cast iron log retainer and cast or steel doors. Pick by the look you want.
