MCO Pools Mykonos Fiberglass Spa: a square spa with room for a group

The MCO Pools Mykonos Fiberglass Spa is a square spa with room for a group. An inground fiberglass spa is a hot tub basin that a pool builder sets into the ground, not a portable tub in a cabinet. It measures 8 feet 8 inches by 9 feet 4 inches and is 3 feet 6 inches deep. Shaped seating runs around the sides, giving your group places to sit together.

The price is for the shell only; your pool builder adds the pump, filter, heater, coping, and decking. Your builder also adds the jets and controls. The spa can share equipment with a pool or run on its own as a hot tub. Decide which you want before your builder sizes the heater. Choose Caribbean Blue, Cancun White, or Eclipse Gray on this page at no extra charge. Need a smaller spa? See the MCO Pools Santorini Spa Fiberglass Spa. The MCO Pools Mykonos Fiberglass Spa comes from My Cozy Outdoors with delivery included within 100 miles of Rio Medina, Texas, No Sales Tax (except WY), and the MCO limited lifetime warranty.

Layered Materials

Layered Materials Diagram MCO Pools

Cross-Section of Fiberglass Pool Layers

This diagram showcases the advanced multi-layered structure of our fiberglass pools, highlighting the materials and their roles in ensuring durability, strength, and aesthetics:

  • Gel Coat with Diamond Finish: The outermost layer, providing a smooth, luxurious surface with exceptional resistance to scratches and fading.
  • Clear UV Protection Coat: A protective layer that shields the pool from harmful UV rays, preventing discoloration and ensuring long-lasting vibrancy.
  • Vinylester Layer: A premium resin layer designed to enhance resistance to osmosis and protect against chemical damage.
  • Resin with Chopped Fiberglass: Adds structural integrity and flexibility, absorbing impacts to prevent cracking or deformation.
  • Woven Fiberglass with Nidacore Structural Honeycomb: A core reinforcement layer combining woven fiberglass with a lightweight, honeycomb structure for superior strength and stability.
  • Resin with Chopped Fiberglass (Base Layer): A foundational layer providing additional support and durability to maintain the pool’s structural integrity.

Manufacturing Process

MCO Pools Diamond Finish flakes

At MCO Fiberglass Pools, we take pride in crafting premium fiberglass pools at our manufacturing facility in León, Guanajuato, Mexico through a meticulous and innovative manufacturing process. Every step is designed to ensure durability, precision, and customer satisfaction:

  • Design and Engineering Our expert engineers create state-of-the-art designs, integrating structural integrity, functionality, and aesthetic appeal. Each model undergoes rigorous testing and refinement to meet the highest standards.
  • Mold Preparation High-precision molds are carefully prepared to ensure the perfect shape and finish for each pool. This step is critical for achieving the smooth surfaces and flawless lines that define our pools.
  • Gel Coat Application A premium gel coat is evenly sprayed onto the mold, forming the outer layer of the pool. This layer provides a sleek, polished finish and acts as the first line of defense against wear and UV damage.
  • Vinylester Layer Application To enhance water resistance and prevent osmosis, a layer of vinylester resin is meticulously applied. This step ensures long-lasting durability and chemical resistance.
  • Fiberglass Reinforcement Multiple layers of chopped fiberglass and resin are applied using advanced spray equipment. This process creates a robust yet flexible structure capable of withstanding heavy loads and environmental stresses.
  • Structural Core Integration For added strength, a core layer of Nidacore or similar honeycomb material is integrated into the pool walls. This ensures stability and reduces the risk of deformation.
  • Final Layers and Curing Additional layers of fiberglass and resin are applied to achieve the desired thickness and strength. The pool is then left to cure under controlled conditions, ensuring a seamless bond between all layers.
  • Quality Inspection Every pool undergoes a thorough inspection to ensure it meets our stringent quality standards. This includes checks for structural integrity, surface finish, and dimensional accuracy.
  • Finishing Touches Once approved, the pool is carefully demolded, trimmed, and polished. Final details are added to enhance its visual appeal and functionality.
  • Packaging and Delivery The completed pool is securely packaged and prepared for delivery, ensuring it arrives in perfect condition, ready for installation.

This process guarantees that every pool we manufacture is not only beautiful but also built to last, providing years of enjoyment and peace of mind for our customers.

Nidacore Honeycomb Core

Nidacore - Polypropylene Honeycomb Layer for Fiberglass Layup Application

PP polypropylene honeycomb exhibits a unique cell structure. The core has 3 orientations vs. the 2 orientations common with other honeycomb, making its properties more uniform. Each cell has a tubular form and is inherently stable. PP polypropylene honeycomb is supplied with or without a non-woven polyester veil for better bonding. It is also supplied with or without a film barrier under the polyester veil to limit the amount of resin consumption.

Applications:

PP polypropylene honeycomb uses include sandwich panel cores, energy absorption and filtration media

Features:

• High strength to weight ratio
• Corrosion, fungi, rot, chemical
and moisture resistant
• Sound and vibration dampening
• Energy absorbing
• Thermoformable
• Temperature use to 180°F
• Recyclable

Manuals

FAQ

What is an inground fiberglass spa?

It is a hot tub basin molded as a fiberglass shell and set into the ground by a pool builder, instead of a portable acrylic tub in a cabinet. The Mykonos is a square shell of 8 ft 8 in by 9 ft 4 in, 3 ft 6 in deep, built with the same six-layer diamond finish laminate as the MCO pools. See our other fiberglass spa shells too.

Can a fiberglass spa be salt water?

Yes. The warranty card that covers the Mykonos allows a salt chlorine generator provided you follow the generator maker’s guidelines and keep the water balanced. A spa this size holds far less water than a pool, so balance changes quickly; the linked service manual’s spa section and the weekly professional testing the warranty asks for both apply.

How is a fiberglass spa heated?

The Mykonos is the shell only; the heater, jets, pump, filter, plumbing and controls are specified and installed by your pool builder. That is what lets it be plumbed to share equipment with a pool or run as a standalone hot tub, so decide which you want before the builder sizes the heater. The service manual covers heater troubleshooting once installed.

How much does an inground spa cost?

The page price is for the Mykonos shell in your choice of three shades. Spa shells ship free within 100 miles of Rio Medina, Texas, and per mile beyond that at the Shipping tab rate, confirmed in your quote before you order. Equipment and installation are priced by your builder, and sales tax is charged only on orders to Wyoming.

Can you drain a fiberglass spa?

Not without authorization. The same warranty as the pools applies: the shell is designed to remain full of water at all times, and draining it or letting groundwater accumulate around it voids coverage because an empty shell can lift. Clean the Mykonos full, keep the level up, and let the manufacturer or an approved contractor direct any repair that needs it emptied.

How long does a fiberglass spa last?

The Mykonos carries the MCO Limited Lifetime Warranty: structural failure causing water loss, and osmotic blistering of the finish, are covered for as long as the original residential buyer owns it. It is not transferable and depends on a compliant installation, weekly professional water testing kept on file, and the spa staying full; there is no liner to replace.
