Yes — the RSS42NE is engineered as a true outdoor gas fireplace, built to live outdoors in the weather. Napoleon still recommends protecting the interior from standing water and debris in the off-season, per the manual’s care guidance.

Does the Riverside 42 need a chimney or venting?

No venting system is required — as an outdoor-only appliance it exhausts directly to open air. That also means it must never be installed indoors or in an enclosed room.

How much heat does the Riverside 42 put out on a patio?

Up to 60,000 BTU through its 42.19 x 33.06 in opening — substantial radiant warmth that extends patio evenings well into the shoulder seasons.

Can you burn wood in the Riverside 42?

No — it is a dedicated gas appliance. Wood, charcoal, or any solid fuel would damage the burner system and void the warranty; the fire comes from the gas burner and its media only.

Can you roast marshmallows over the Riverside 42?

It isn’t designed as a cooking appliance — drips and sugar can foul the burner and media. For s’mores nights, a fire pit designed for the job is the better tool; think of the Riverside as ambiance and warmth.

Freight Claims Policy

Open and inspect the order while the delivery driver is present. If delivery driver does not provide sufficient time to do so, please notate the delivery receipt.

By signing the delivery receipt without noting any damage or missing items, you confirm that your order arrived complete and in excellent condition.

Record any damage or missing pieces directly on the delivery receipt.

Do not discard damaged item(s) or any original packaging. For severe damage, write “Refused due to damage” on the delivery receipt and contact us immediately.

Report any damage within two business days, including delivery details and photos showing the issue

Damaged item(s) must be returned within 30 days. Failure to return them will result in a charge to the original payment method.
