SaunaLife S4N: a six person wood fired hot tub in natural thermo-spruce, no electricity needed
The SaunaLife S4N is a wood fired hot tub for up to six people. It arrives fully assembled. The round tub has a natural thermo-spruce exterior, which is spruce baked in a kiln so it stands up to water and weather. Inside is a smooth dark gray fiberglass basin shaped for sitting comfortably. It is about 81 inches across and holds 304 gallons.
A wood stove heats the water, so the tub works anywhere with no power hookup. The stainless steel stove has two chambers to draw more heat from the fire and burn less wood. It brings the water up to soaking temperature in under two hours. A tall chimney carries the smoke above your head. It comes with the stove, the chimney, matching wood steps, an insulated cover that folds up for storage, and a drain tap. Wood care oils and SaunaLife cleaner are optional on the page. Smoking Hot Tub!
I got the Norse Steam SaunaLife wood-fired hot tub, the S4N model, and its been seriously great. It heats up quicker than I expected, usually around an hour and a half, and once its hot, it stays that way for a good long while. The wood-fired system is simple to use, and honestly kind of fun.
The tub itself feels solid and well put together. The thermo-spruce exterior looks beautiful in person, and the fiberglass interior is smooth, deep, and easy to clean. Its the kind of setup that just works without a bunch of fuss, which I really appreciate.
Also, the team at Norse Steam was genuinely great to work with. Super helpful, quick to respond, and made the process really easy from start to finish. It felt like they actually cared that I was happy with it. The tub has totally become a go-to way to unwind, and I wouldnt change a thing.

FAQ
How does a wood-fired hot tub work?
A 304 stainless steel wood-burning stove sits in the tub and heats the water directly, no electrical connection is required. The stove draws cooler water through a lower channel and redistributes it through an upper channel to equalize temperature, while a secondary chamber captures heat from the smoke, cutting wood consumption by up to half versus other tubs.
How long does it take to heat up?
The stove brings the full 304 gallons from 40 degrees Fahrenheit to 95 degrees in about 1.5 to 2 hours, which SaunaLife cites as the fastest heat-up among wood-burning hot tubs, roughly a third of the time traditional designs need. Air super-heated between the fiberglass liner and the wood exterior accelerates the process.
How hot can the water get?
The specifications list a maximum water temperature of 106 degrees Fahrenheit, in the range of a conventional spa. You control the heat by how much wood you burn, and because the stove equalizes water between its lower and upper channels, the warmth spreads through the tub rather than pooling near the heater.
What comes with the tub?
It arrives fully assembled with matching Thermo-Spruce steps, an extra-thick steel-reinforced foam cover in dark grey marine-grade vinyl that folds for storage, an integrated drainage tap, and the polished stainless steel chimney with cap and protection. The included items are also listed in this page’s add-on section so you can confirm them at order time.
What kind of firewood does it use?
The firebox accepts logs up to 16 inches long. The corrugated, self-cleaning stove is built of 304 stainless steel with dual heat compartments, so it burns efficiently and needs less tending, and the polished stainless chimney with cap carries smoke well above the bathers. Seasoned wood in that length is all you need.
How many people fit, and is it comfortable?
Up to six bathers. The ergonomically shaped fiberglass tub is contoured for the body in a thick dark grey lining, and the surrounding Thermo-Spruce staves are 1.65 inches thick for insulation and durability. At 81 inches across outside with a 33-inch water depth, there is genuine soaking room for a family or a group of friends.
Is the tub hard to maintain?
The fiberglass interior surface is easy to clean, and the integrated tap drains the tub for water changes. The Thermo-Spruce exterior lasts up to twice as long as cedar, and this page’s Wood Treatment selector offers wax, paraffin oil, and cleaner.
