FAQ
Why put a brass bullet burner in a drop-in pan?
Because the recessed 8-inch pan hides the plumbing and lets the brass bullet ports do the talking — crisp jets rising straight out of a sunken bed of glass. Brass also brings serious corrosion resistance, which matters when the burner lives down in a pan where moisture can linger.
What lengths does the OPT-BP800RD series offer?
Seven: 24, 36, 48, 60, 72, 84 and 96 inches, all 8 inches wide — OPT-BP824RD through OPT-BP896RD. No 30 or 42-inch steps in this line, so set your cut-out to one of the seven listed sizes before the countertop gets templated.
What ignition options ship with it?
Match Lit, Match Lit with Flame Sense (LC certified), Flame Sense with Spark, Low Voltage Electronic (CSA certified) or Plug and Play (CSA certified). The choice is baked into the pan at the factory, so decide between key-valve simplicity and push-button ignition before ordering.
Will the brass change color outdoors?
It may mellow and darken slightly with heat and weather — what it will not do is rust or pit the way lesser metals can. Since the burner sits below fire glass in the recessed pan, most of what you see is flame anyway; the brass is there for longevity, not looks.
How would I build a propane fire pit around this set?
Order it built for liquid propane, frame an enclosure with tank ventilation or a buried LP line, cut the opening and rest the pan on its rim — the standard skeleton of a scratch-built gas fire pit. A licensed gas professional makes and tests every connection.
Should the fire glass cover the brass ports?
No — fill the recessed pan to just under the bullet tips so the ports fire above the media line. That is the whole trick of the design: buried ports lose the sharp jetted look and can sputter. An 8-inch channel needs less glass than you would guess.
Is rain on the open pan a problem?
Not structurally — brass and stainless both shrug it off. A drop-in pan can collect water in a downpour though, so give the OPT-BP824RD a drying burn afterward and consider a cover between uses. Persistent standing water is a drainage-design question for your builder.
