What is Corten Steel
COR-TEN® Steel is a high strength steel with a high weathering resistance. COR-TEN® has been a trademarked name used to generalize Weathered Steel. This steel alloy has been used in architecture and sculptural works, it eliminates the need to paint and provides a beautifully unique and aesthetically pleasing look while also providing great rust protection. COR-TEN® has a weather resistance greater than 4~8 times that of ordinary steel. Each of our COR-TEN® Steel Products at The Outdoor Plus are aged to look around 1 month of patina. The texture of the COR-TEN® Steel may be irregular, this is what gives our products and even more unique finish.
COR-TEN® Steel will continue to patina over time into a darker mocha looking metal instead of the bright yellow-orange that it originally started with. What is the 18-inch-tall Unity for?
Cocktail-table fire. At 18 inches, this Unity holds flame just above lounge-chair seat height — low enough to see over, tall enough to feel like furniture. It is the version for sunken patios and low-slung outdoor sofas; the 24-inch Unity is the standard-height sibling. Both live in our fire pit table collection.
Which sizes can I order?
Three lengths at the 18-inch height: 48, 60, and 72 inches — stainless SKUs run OPT-UNYSS4818, OPT-UNYSS6018, and OPT-UNYSS7218. The 72-inch Unity carries a six-foot line of flame, which changes what a patio feels like after dark.
What finishes does it come in?
A wide slate: hammered patina copper, Corten steel, stainless steel, and powder coats including Black, Copper Vein, Java, Pewter, Silver Vein, Smooth Gray, and White. Ten looks on the same low Unity body — from living-finish metals to color-matched modern.
Will it work on a wood deck?
Usually — the Unity is gas, so no embers threaten the boards, and its long footprint spreads weight well. Confirm framing for the 72-inch size, respect the spec clearances, and pad beneath if the manufacturer directs. Local code gets the last word, as always.
What is the fuel burn like?
Proportional to flame height and length. A 72-inch Unity at full song uses meaningfully more than a small bowl — on natural gas that is still inexpensive; on propane, throttle the valve down between conversation peaks and a tank goes surprisingly far.
Fire glass or lava rock along the trough?
On a long burner line like the Unity, fire glass is the showpiece move — an unbroken ribbon of glitter under flame. Lava rock reads more relaxed and hides hardware just as well. Match the media to the finish: glass with stainless, rock with Corten.
Can it sit on an outdoor rug?
No — give the Unity hard surface and let rugs stop at its edge. An 18-inch-tall body puts the burner close to the ground, which concentrates radiant heat downward more than taller pits do. Stone, pavers, or concrete underneath; textiles at a respectful distance.
