Lexington Hearth Farmhouse: the largest beam mantel in the line
The Lexington Hearth Farmhouse is a non combustible fireplace mantel that looks like a massive old beam. Lexington Hearth casts it from a mold of a real timber in its own non combustible mix, then paints each one by hand. The old beam’s surface marks come through in the casting. Its thick, hewn timber look suits a room where a smaller shelf would feel lost. The shelf is 10 inches deep and the face is 10 inches tall.
It is non combustible, which means the material itself will not burn, so it can usually sit closer to the fireplace than a wood mantel. Your fireplace manual and local code set the exact distance above the firebox. It weighs over 200 pounds and comes with a super heavy duty steel mounting bracket, the screws, and a touch up kit for the screw holes. The bracket must screw into four wall studs, the mantel slides over it, and it takes two people to hang. On the page you pick the length, 72 or 84 inches, and then one of five hand painted colors. Custom colors and lengths are available on request, so ask us if your wall needs a different size. Because every piece is cast and painted by hand, expect small differences in color and size from the photos. Want a smaller beam that is easier to hang? See the Lexington Hearth Rickhouse mantel. The Lexington Hearth Farmhouse ships free from My Cozy Outdoors with No Sales Tax (except WY) and the full manufacturer warranty.

FAQ
How big is the Farmhouse mantel, and how much does it weigh?
The Farmhouse has a 10 in. by 10 in. end profile, the largest in the Lexington Hearth line, and comes in 72 in. and 84 in. lengths. Cast in Burncrete rather than wood, it is heavy: the page lists 205 lbs for the 72 in. version and 235 lbs for the 84 in. version. Pick the length on the Size selector above; any price difference is shown there.
Can a mantel this heavy hang on a normal framed wall?
Yes, on wood framing. Lexington Hearth ships the Farmhouse with a super-heavy-duty steel mounting bracket built for its weight, and the installation guide in the Manuals tab calls for four studs behind the bracket on 72 in. to 84 in. mantels, with every screw biting at least 1.5 in. into the stud. If you cannot find studs, the guide says to open the wall and add wood or 16-gauge metal studs.
Is it safe to use above a wood-burning fireplace?
The material is certified non-combustible to ASTM E136, tested in a vertical tube furnace at 750 degrees Celsius, so the mantel itself will not burn. Placement still has to follow your fireplace manufacturer’s clearance and local code. As a general guideline, the installation guide suggests at least 6 in. above equipment under 50,000 BTU and 12 in. above equipment at or above 50,000 BTU.
What comes in the box?
The mantel, its mounting bracket, and the fasteners: pan-head screws for the bracket and self-drilling screws that go through pre-drilled holes in the top of the mantel. A touch-up kit with filler putty, matching paint, and a brush is also included so you can fill the screw countersinks after hanging. Only the length and color are chosen on this page.
Which colors are offered?
Five hand-painted standard colors: Maduro, Roasted Chestnut, Pale Honey, Eclipse, and Weathered Grey. The color choices appear once you pick a length. Every mantel is individually cast and hand-painted, so expect minor variation in color, weight, and final dimensions from the sample photos. Custom colors are available on request if you need to match an existing finish.
Does the Farmhouse look like real wood up close?
Yes. The casting carries intricate detail on every exposed edge, then artists hand-paint each piece, so the Farmhouse reads as a massive hewn timber with the surface character of an old beam, without splinters and without being combustible. Compare its 10 in. profile with the smaller reclaimed-beam looks in our Lexington Hearth non-combustible mantel collection.
Can I get it shorter than 72 inches?
Yes, custom lengths are available on request. The standard sizes on this page are 72 in. and 84 in., and Lexington Hearth can shorten mantels to custom lengths for an added charge; the catalog linked in the Manuals tab lists 36 in. to 72 in. as the custom range. Contact us with your fireplace width before ordering so we can confirm the length and lead time.
