Lexington Hearth Smokehouse: a deep shelf with the look of old barn timber
The Lexington Hearth Smokehouse is a non combustible fireplace mantel that looks like an old barn beam. Lexington Hearth casts it from a mold of a real barn timber in its own non combustible mix, then paints each one by hand. The flat cuts left by a hand axe, cracks, and splits come through in the casting. It has the worn wood look of a working Kentucky smokehouse. The wide shelf is 10 inches deep, with a face 5 inches tall.
It is non combustible, which means the material itself will not burn, so it can usually sit closer to the fireplace than a wood mantel. Your fireplace manual and local code set the exact distance above the firebox. It comes with a steel mounting bracket, the screws, and a touch up kit for the screw holes. The bracket screws into the wall studs, the mantel slides over it, and it takes two people to hang. On the page you pick one of five hand painted colors; it comes in one 80 inch length. Custom colors and custom lengths are available on request, so ask us before you order if 80 inches does not fit your wall. Because every piece is cast and painted by hand, expect small differences in color and size from the photos. Prefer a taller beam? See the Lexington Hearth Farmhouse mantel. The Lexington Hearth Smokehouse ships free from My Cozy Outdoors with No Sales Tax (except WY) and the full manufacturer warranty.

FAQ
What is the Smokehouse mantel?
A tribute to the working Kentucky smokehouse: the mantel is molded directly from a 10 in. by 5 in. barn timber, so the casting carries hand-hewn adze facets, checks and splits, and the seasoning of old wood. It comes in one standard 80 in. length and is hand-painted using a multi-step finishing process. It is certified non-combustible to ASTM E136.
How big and how heavy is it?
The standard length is 80 in., and the catalog linked in the Manuals tab lists the profile at 5 in. tall by 10 in. deep and about 175 lbs. That is a wide, deep shelf, so plan on two people and a bracket landing on four studs, which is what the installation guide specifies for mantels in the 72 in. to 84 in. range.
Can it be made shorter than 80 inches?
Yes, custom lengths are available on request per the page, and the catalog notes that mantels can be shortened for an added charge. Only the color is selected on this page, so contact us with your fireplace wall width before ordering and we will confirm a custom length and lead time. Custom colors can be matched from a sample the same way.
Is it safe above a wood-burning fireplace?
The Smokehouse is cast in Burncrete and certified non-combustible under ASTM E136 (vertical tube furnace at 750 degrees Celsius), so the mantel itself will not ignite. Clearance above the firebox still follows your fireplace manufacturer’s manual and local code; the installation guide’s general guideline is 6 in. minimum under 50,000 BTU and 12 in. at or above.
What is included?
The mantel, a steel mounting bracket, pan-head screws for the bracket, self-drilling screws for the pre-drilled holes in the top, and a touch-up kit with filler putty, paint, and brush for the countersinks. Fasten only through the top holes, never the bottom, and use non-combustible shims if the wall is out of plane, as the guide describes.
Which colors are available for the Smokehouse?
Five hand-painted colors on the Color selector: Maduro, Roasted Chestnut, Pale Honey, Eclipse, and Weathered Grey. Each mantel is individually cast and hand-painted, so expect minor variances in color, weight, and final dimensions from the photos. The same palette is used on the other reclaimed-timber profiles in our Lexington Hearth non-combustible mantel collection.
