Lexington Hearth Half Round Sleeper: a non combustible mantel with a rounded pine bark face

The Lexington Hearth Half Round Sleeper is a non combustible fireplace mantel that looks like a half log rather than a squared timber. It is molded from a real beam with a rounded pine bark face, cast in Lexington Hearth’s own non combustible mix, then painted by hand. The tool marks, cracks, splits, and knots show through. The shelf is about 8 inches deep, and the face is about 6 inches tall.

It is non combustible, which means the material itself will not burn, so it can usually sit closer to the fireplace than a wood mantel. Your fireplace manual and local code set the exact distance above the firebox. It comes with a steel mounting bracket, the screws, and a touch up kit for the screw holes. The bracket screws into the wall studs, the mantel slides over it, and it takes two people to hang. On the page you pick the length, 48, 60, or 72 inches, and then one of five hand painted colors. Custom colors and lengths are available on request, so ask us if your wall needs a different size. What does the Half-Round Sleeper mantel look like?

It is molded from an 8 in. by 6 in. beam with a rounded, pine-bark face, so instead of a squared timber you get a half-log profile with bark texture, rough-hewn tool marks, checks and splits, and character knots. Each casting is hand-painted. The catalog linked in the Manuals tab lists it at about 6 in. tall and 8 in. deep.

What sizes are available?

Three standard lengths on the Size selector: 48 in. at 70 lbs, 60 in. at 87 lbs, and 72 in. at 110 lbs; the price difference between them is shown on the selector. Custom lengths are available on request if you need something between or beyond those, so contact us with your fireplace wall measurements.

Is it non-combustible?

Yes. The Half-Round Sleeper is cast in Burncrete and certified non-combustible under ASTM E136, the vertical tube furnace test at 750 degrees Celsius, so the material will not burn or degrade from heat. Where it can sit above the firebox still comes from your fireplace manufacturer’s manual and local code; the guide’s general guideline is 6 in. under 50,000 BTU and 12 in. at or above.

How is the bracket attached?

The included steel bracket screws into the wall studs with the supplied pan-head screws: two studs for the 48 in. mantel, three for the 60 in., and four for the 72 in., each screw penetrating the stud at least 1.5 in. The mantel then sets over the bracket and is fixed with self-drilling screws through the pre-drilled holes in its top; the countersinks are filled with the included putty.

Do I need two people to install it?

Yes. The installation guide requires at least two people for handling and installing any Lexington Hearth mantel, and the Half-Round weighs 70 to 110 lbs depending on length. One person holds the mantel on the bracket while the other checks level and drives the top screws. Lift it by its plywood base and never set it on a hard surface without padding, per the guide.

Which colors does it come in?

Maduro, Roasted Chestnut, Pale Honey, Eclipse, and Weathered Grey, all hand-painted; the color choices appear once a length is selected. Because every piece is individually cast and painted, expect minor variation from the photos. Custom colors are available on request, and the same five colors are shared by most of the Lexington Hearth non-combustible mantel collection.

Report any damage within two business days, including delivery details and photos showing the issue

Damaged item(s) must be returned within 30 days. Failure to return them will result in a charge to the original payment method.
