Lexington Hearth Horizon: a slim floating mantel with a smooth concrete look
The Lexington Hearth Horizon is a slim modern floating shelf. Lexington Hearth casts it in its own non combustible mix with a smooth concrete look and paints each one by hand. The thin, straight shelf is inspired by mid century design and suits a linear fireplace in a modern room. Its face is only 3 inches tall.
It is non combustible, which means the material itself will not burn, so it can usually sit closer to the fireplace than a wood mantel. Your fireplace manual and local code set the exact distance above the firebox. It comes with a steel mounting bracket, the screws, and a touch up kit for the screw holes. The bracket screws into the wall studs, the mantel slides over it, and it takes two people to hang. On the page you pick the length, 60 or 84 inches, the projection, 4 or 6 inches, and one of two hand painted colors. Projection is how far the shelf sticks out from the wall. Custom colors and lengths are available on request, so ask us if your wall needs a different size. Because every piece is cast and painted by hand, expect small differences in color and size from the photos. Prefer a cedar beam look? See the Lexington Hearth Flat Sawn Beam mantel. FAQ
What is the Horizon mantel designed for?
Linear fireplaces and modern rooms. The Horizon is a slim floating shelf with a 3 in. tall profile, and its concrete construction and coloring are meant to emphasize the clean horizontal line of a linear firebox. Lexington Hearth describes it as mid-century inspired, and it is the most contemporary piece in the Lexington Hearth non-combustible mantel collection.
What do the projection options mean?
Projection is how far the shelf extends from the wall: 4 in. or 6 in., chosen on the Projection selector. The deeper 6 in. version is heavier; the page lists 33 lbs (4 in.) and 54 lbs (6 in.) at 60 in. long, and 47 lbs and 75 lbs at 84 in. Any price difference for the 6 in. projection is shown on the selector.
What lengths are available?
60 in. and 84 in., described on the page as five-foot and seven-foot lengths. Choose the length on the Size selector. If you need a different length to suit a wide linear fireplace, custom lengths are available on request; contact us with your measurements before ordering so we can confirm what is possible.
Can the Horizon go close to a linear gas fireplace?
It is certified non-combustible to ASTM E136 (vertical tube furnace at 750 degrees Celsius), so it can typically sit closer than a wood shelf, but the fireplace manufacturer’s clearance and local code decide the actual height. The installation guide’s general guideline is 6 in. minimum above equipment under 50,000 BTU and 12 in. above equipment at 50,000 BTU and up.
Is the mounting hardware included?
Yes: a mounting bracket, fasteners, and a touch-up kit ship with the mantel. Note that the Horizon uses a slimmer bracket with a 1.5 in. leg instead of the 2 in. leg used on the other profiles, which the installation guide calls out. The bracket screws to the studs and the mantel is fastened through pre-drilled holes in its top.
Which colors are offered?
Two standard colors, Mystic Grey and Sahara Sand, both exclusive to this profile; custom colors are available on request. Like every Lexington Hearth piece it is individually hand-cast and hand-painted, so expect minor variation in color, weight, and final dimensions from the photos. The included touch-up kit covers small marks after installation.
