Saunum Air 5: the smallest Saunum heater for a small home sauna
The Saunum Air 5 is a floor standing electric sauna heater. It is Saunum’s smallest heater, with 5 kW for a room of 106 to 212 cubic feet. That suits a small sauna for two people or solo use. Its quiet fan draws hot ceiling air down through an intake that extends up to the ceiling. It mixes this with cooler floor air and releases it low in the room. This helps the lower bench feel as warm as the upper bench and makes the steam feel softer. On the page you choose stainless steel or Nordic black.
The heater comes with seven Himalayan salt spheres that rest in a tray with slots. Air passes through the tray, carrying a little of the salt’s scent and minerals around the room. It needs the Saunum AirIQ Wi-Fi control to run, and you add that on the page. Sauna stones are sold separately, so add the 4 boxes it needs on the page. Want the heater, control, and stones in one order? See the Saunum Air 5 package. The Saunum Air 5 ships free from My Cozy Outdoors with No Sales Tax (except WY) and the full manufacturer warranty.
FAQ
Which saunas is the 4.8 kW Air 5 designed for?
Small rooms: the Specifications tab rates it for 106 to 212 cubic feet with a minimum ceiling height of 71.48 inches. Calculate the volume from length, width and height in feet, then add for glass or masonry surfaces using the Sizing Your Saunum sheet in the Manual tab. Because the range starts so low, it suits compact one or two person saunas where bigger heaters would overshoot.
What do I still need to buy to run it?
A control and stones, both of which the page says are sold separately and both of which are on this page as add-ons. Select the AirIQ Wi-Fi control under Sauna Heater Control (Required); the manual states the heater is intended for AirIQ only and other controls void the warranty and UL listing. Then add rounded olivine stones under Sauna Stones (Required), sold in 33 lb boxes.
What circuit does a 4.8 kW heater need?
The Specifications tab lists 240 V single phase, 20 A, a 30 A circuit breaker and two number 10 conductors plus neutral and ground to the power unit. The included element and equalizer cables run from the power unit to the heater. Hardwiring is by a licensed electrician to the NEC and local code, and the manual says not through a GFCI breaker.
How is this different from a regular small electric sauna heater?
Instead of a small stone tray it carries 132 to 154 lb of stones, and it includes the patented climate equalizer, a three-speed fan that mixes ceiling heat with floor air and blows it out under the bench for an even head-to-toe temperature. The page describes six bathing styles from dry Finnish heat to humid banya-style steam, plus optional Himalayan salt and aromatherapy.
How high does the ceiling need to be?
At least 71.48 inches, because the telescopic hot-air intake extends from 71.48 to 94.49 inches and must reach the ceiling to work properly. The manual also asks for the top of the air outlet to sit below the bench, at least 20 inches of clear space in front of the fan, and the safety distances listed for the stainless cage body.
How do I care for the stones and salt?
The manual says stones break down with heat cycling, so restack them at least once a year, remove fragments from the bottom and replace broken stones; used often, do it more frequently. Check the Himalayan salt spheres yearly and swap worn ones. Clean the housing with a damp cloth only, and disconnect power at the breaker before any maintenance.
What are the finish and accessory options?
Model Options chooses the stainless steel or black body. Under Operating Accessories you can add the Air Deflector, the Saunum Safety Rail, satisfying the manual guardrail requirement, or the Auto Leil water dispenser; Sauna Heater Add-Ons hold salt refills and aroma oils, and Sauna Add-Ons a bamboo bucket and ladle.
