Superior WRE3000: a stainless outdoor wood burning fireplace for the patio in two sizes
The Superior WRE3000 is an outdoor wood burning fireplace. It comes in widths of 36 or 42 inches. Pick the size on the page. Your contractor frames a structure around it on the patio, runs the chimney, and finishes it in stone, stucco, or brick. The face is smooth brushed stainless steel, and the whole box is stainless steel, so it shrugs off rain and snow.
It burns real logs and needs an eight inch double wall chimney. Inside are brick panels, a heavy stainless steel log grate, and a damper you can reach easily. Stainless steel mesh screens slide out of hidden pockets. The chimney pipe is sold separately, so ask us to quote the run. On the page you pick the brick pattern for the inside, stacked or herringbone. You can add bi-fold glass doors, a stainless hood, and a drain pan. It can also take a gas log set later if you tire of hauling wood. Want a taller opening or a 50 inch width? See the Superior WRE4500 outdoor wood burning fireplace. The Superior WRE3000 ships free from My Cozy Outdoors with No Sales Tax (except WY) and the full manufacturer warranty.

FAQ
What chimney pipe does the WRE3000 need outdoors?
IHP 8DM (1,700 F) or 8HT (2,100 F) double-wall air-cooled wood-burning chimney, 8 in inner and 12-3/8 in outer diameter; 8HT is recommended for cold climates and required in Canada, and the 42 in model uses a transition collar. For an outdoor installation the manual requires a minimum chimney height of 7-1/2 ft from the fireplace base, with at least 4 ft of pipe sections. Chimney components are quoted separately.
Which sizes and brick patterns can I choose?
36 in and 42 in models on the Size selector, each with a stacked or herringbone refractory panel interior chosen on the Brick Pattern selector. Framing is 41-3/4 in wide by 41-3/4 in high by 21-7/8 in deep for the 36 and 49-3/4 by 47-1/4 by 23-1/2 for the 42, and the Smart Sheet also gives corner-installation framing dimensions.
Can I use gas logs instead of firewood?
Yes. The manual approves this fireplace for wood, for a vented gas log set listed to ANSI Z21.60 or Z21.84, or for a vent-free gas log heater listed to ANSI Z21.11.2 provided an IHP hood is installed. Gas line knockouts are built into both sides. Log sets are separate; see more wood burning outdoor fireplaces that offer the same flexibility.
How does it hold up to weather?
The WRE3000 is built of stainless steel for long-lasting outdoor use, with a brushed stainless face, stainless mesh screens that retract into hidden pockets and a solid stainless log grate. For rain that blows into the firebox, the Drain Pan selector adds a pan with a 1 in stainless face extension, and the Hood selector adds a stainless 4 in brow hood over the opening.
Can this fireplace also be installed indoors?
Yes. Its manual covers residential and outdoor installations, and the same unit is listed for both. Indoors the chimney rules change: 14-1/2 ft minimum height for a straight flue, 22 ft with two elbow sets and 50 ft maximum, with 40 in from the fireplace top to the ceiling and 1 in around the chimney pipe. Either way it is a wood-burning open hearth, so it heats the space in front of it rather than a whole home.
What hearth and mantel clearances does it need?
A non-combustible hearth extension at least 16 in in front of and 8 in beyond each side of the opening protects a combustible deck or floor. Combustible trim or mantels projecting from the face must stay 12 in away from the opening, and anything above 12 in that projects more than 1-1/2 in must be at least 15 in above the top of the opening. Optional black bi-fold glass doors are on the Door selector.
