Lexington Hearth Grist Mill bracket trim: a metal strap that hides mantel seams
The Lexington Hearth Grist Mill bracket trim is a decorative trim made for the Grist Mill fireplace mantel. It is a decorative metal strap in a hand forged look that wraps around the mantel. Lexington Hearth uses it to hide the seam where a two foot extension or a corner piece joins the mantel. You can also add one to a plain mantel just for the look. It fits only the Grist Mill mantel, because each Lexington Hearth beam has its own size.
It is trim only: the steel bracket that holds the mantel to the wall comes with the mantel. On the page you pick black or bronze, and a single bracket or a set of two. Extended layouts usually use two, one over the seam and one at the far end to match. Extensions and corner pieces are ordered through us, so ask with your wall width. Need the matching mantel? FAQ
What mantel is this bracket trim made for?
The Lexington Hearth Grist Mill mantel, whose beam profile is 6 in. by 5.75 in. The trim is shaped to that cross-section, so it does not fit the larger Rickhouse or Tobacco Barn beams, the tapered Hayloft, or the slim Flat Sawn. Matching trims for those profiles are listed with the mantels in the Lexington Hearth non-combustible mantel collection.
Why would I add a bracket trim?
Mainly to hide a joint. Lexington Hearth builds longer and wrap-around Grist Mill mantels from a standard mantel plus 2 ft extensions or corner pieces, and the forge-inspired trim covers the seam where they meet. It can also be fitted to a standard mantel simply as a decorative detail. It is not load-bearing; the steel mounting bracket comes with the mantel.
What colors are available?
Black or Bronze, chosen on the Color selector. Both are metal finishes designed to look hand-forged against the painted casting. The same two finishes are used across all Lexington Hearth bracket trims, so a layout that combines extensions, corners, and several brackets can be ordered in one consistent finish.
How many brackets are needed for an extended mantel?
The catalog’s extended layouts use two: one concealing the joint where the extension meets the mantel, and a second at the mirrored position on the far end so the finished mantel reads as symmetrical. Order a single bracket or a set of two on the Quantity selector; any price difference is shown there.
Does it come with the extension?
No. This is the decorative trim only. The Grist Mill mantel is sold separately on our site with its own mounting bracket, fasteners, and touch-up kit, and the 2 ft extensions and corner pieces are ordered through us on request. Tell us your total wall width and we will work out the mantel, extension, and bracket combination.
