Lexington Hearth Flat Sawn Beam: a narrow face with the look of rough cut cedar
The Lexington Hearth Flat Sawn Beam is a non combustible fireplace mantel that looks like a wood beam. It is molded from rough cut western red cedar and cast in Lexington Hearth’s own non combustible mix, then painted by hand. Rough sawn grain shows on the top and bottom, with circular saw marks across the smooth face. The look recalls Kentucky horse farm fences. Its narrow face suits modern rooms more than heavy rustic ones. The shelf is 8.25 inches deep and 4 inches tall.
It is non combustible, which means the material itself will not burn, so it can usually sit closer to the fireplace than a wood mantel. Your fireplace manual and local code set the exact distance above the firebox. It comes with a steel mounting bracket, the screws, and a touch up kit for the screw holes. The bracket screws into the wall studs, the mantel slides over it, and it takes two people to hang. On the page you pick the length, 48, 60, or 72 inches, and then one of five hand painted colors. Custom colors and lengths are available on request, so ask us if your wall needs a different size. Because every piece is cast and painted by hand, expect small differences in color and size from the photos. Two foot extensions, corner pieces, and a matching bracket trim are separate pieces; ask us if you want a longer or wrap around run. Prefer a slim modern shelf? FAQ
What does the Flat Sawn Beam mantel look like?
It is modeled from a rough-cut western red cedar beam, with rough-sawn grain on the top and bottom surfaces and a smooth face showing circular saw marks. The cross-section is 8.25 in. deep by 4 in. high, so the face is narrow and refined, which is why the page recommends it for contemporary and transitional rooms rather than heavy rustic settings.
Which sizes can I order?
48 in. at 63 lbs, 60 in. at 80 lbs, and 72 in. at 97 lbs. Pick the length on the Size selector, where any price difference is shown, and the color choices for that length appear. The description also lists mantel extensions, mantel corners, and decorative corbels as accessories for this profile if you need a longer or wrap-around run.
Are the extensions and corbels included?
No. This listing is the mantel with its mounting bracket, fasteners, and touch-up kit; only length and color are selected on this page. Extensions, corners, and corbels are separate Lexington Hearth accessories, and the matching decorative bracket trim that hides an extension joint is listed separately on our site. Is it really non-combustible?
Yes. The Flat Sawn is cast in Burncrete and certified non-combustible under ASTM E136, the vertical tube furnace test at 750 degrees Celsius. Your fireplace manufacturer’s clearance and local code still govern where it sits; the installation guide gives 6 in. minimum for appliances under 50,000 BTU and 12 in. for 50,000 BTU or more as a general guideline.
How is it attached to the wall?
A steel bracket screws into the studs (two for 48 in., three for 60 in., four for 72 in.), the mantel drops over the bracket, and self-drilling screws go through pre-drilled holes in the top surface; the countersinks are then filled with the included putty and touch-up paint. The guide covers wood framing; masonry needs anchors rated for four times the load.
What colors are available?
Five hand-painted colors: Maduro, Roasted Chestnut, Pale Honey, Eclipse, and Weathered Grey. Because each mantel is individually cast and hand-painted, expect slight variation in color, weight, and final dimensions. Custom colors can be matched on request. The same five colors run across most of the Lexington Hearth non-combustible mantel collection, so extensions ordered in the same color will match.
