How to choose a built-in gas grill for your outdoor kitchen

We suggest matching your island’s cutout first, especially for a replacement. Each product page’s spec sheet gives the measurements for that brand and width. Our drop-in grills set into the counter from above. Without an island, freestanding grills offer the same heads on matching carts. You can also explore finished BBQ islands with cutouts ready.

You’ll order our gas grills for natural gas or propane; the fuels aren’t interchangeable once built. When choosing a built-in gas grill, confirm whether your island will use propane or natural gas. If you prefer a built-in charcoal grill, browse our charcoal grills. Where gas and charcoal aren’t allowed, consider plug-in electric grills.

Gas models have two to five main burners, with three-burner and four-burner options. Several lines have cast stainless steel burners. An infrared sear burner or rotisserie may suit how you cook. You’ll find a rear infrared burner paired with a rotisserie in the Fire Magic Echelon Diamond line. The bodies are stainless steel, and lights or digital panels for temperature control need power at the island.

Questions we hear most

Built-in or freestanding, which is right for me?

An island grill suits a permanent outdoor kitchen with counters on both sides. Natural gas needs a line in the island. A freestanding grill needs no cutout and moves with you. These brands offer the same heads both ways.

What size built-in grill do I need?

A 30-inch grill with two or three burners feeds a family. We suggest 36 inches for hosting, or 42 inches and up for crowds or running a rotisserie while the grates are full. Your island cutout decides what fits.

Can a built-in grill run on natural gas or propane?

Yes, every gas grill here comes in natural gas and propane versions, but you choose one when ordering. Natural gas needs a line to the island. Propane needs room inside for a tank. Call us if you’re unsure.
