Outdoor sauna kits here include barrels, cubes, cabins and pods. You can choose a backyard sauna for two or a larger room with space to change before stepping into the heat. Start with who will join you and the space in your yard. Then compare the shape, the build process and the heater that suits your Finnish sauna experience.

What an outdoor sauna kit is

A kit is a flat pack for the yard, with the room parts to assemble. Compare sauna kits or the wider sauna collection, including finished buildings. Our guide to building a sauna explains kits versus starting from scratch. For no build, consider portable sauna tents with propane heaters.

Barrel, cube, cabin or pod?

Compare a barrel sauna kit with other barrel saunas, including SaunaLife barrels for three, four or six people. A cube sauna kit offers a glass front, from patio sizes to an eight person suite. Browse rooms for two, three person layouts and four person choices for your group and the bench space you need. Cabins offer porch and changing room options, while the pod has an arched roof and terrace.

Meet the two makers

Explore SaunaLife for barrels, cubes, cabins and pods of thermo-spruce under a shingle roof, most in natural or black. With two people, a barrel takes about a day to build and a cabin about two days. If you want a room that arrives built, explore prefab saunas.

Golden Designs offers cubes and barn style rooms with an espresso or cream shell built for rain and sun and red cedar inside. The Harvia stove and stones come in the box for a traditional sauna. The maker says two adults can assemble a cabin in about an hour with two screwdrivers and a ladder. Its hybrids sit under outdoor infrared saunas and hybrid saunas.

If you would rather not build, Sweaty Yeti finished buildings arrive built, including its commercial room for eight to twelve people. These buildings are not kits, so they are not on this page.

The base, build and weather

Barrels include cradles, and some cubes and cabins include foundation beams. For other kits, call us about the base for your yard. SaunaLife barrels take two people about a day, cabins about two days. Compare outdoor saunas for woods and roofs suited to weather.

Choose your heater and power

SaunaLife heaters are not in the box, but electric heater packages include controls and stones. Electric heaters need their own circuit, wired by a licensed electrician. Several barrels and the beam cabin accept wood burning stoves, with chimney parts chosen on the page. Follow the heater manual. Still deciding indoors or out? Compare home sauna kit options.

Your questions answered

What do I build an outdoor sauna kit on?

Choose a firm, level spot. Barrels use included cradles, and some cubes and cabins include foundation beams. For other bases, call us. Allow space for doors, roof overhangs and wiring or a chimney.

How long does it take to build a DIY sauna kit?

Two people build a SaunaLife barrel in about a day or a cabin in about two days. Golden Designs says two adults need about an hour, two screwdrivers and a ladder. A licensed electrician wires the heater.

How well do outdoor sauna kits handle weather?

SaunaLife uses moisture-resistant thermo-spruce under shingles. Golden Designs has espresso or cream exteriors built for rain and sun, with tile or shingle roofs. In cold weather, stove rooms take longer to warm up.

Glass front or plain walls?

Some owners say glass opens views of trees and stars, while others find it less cozy. SaunaLife cubes, glass front barrels and the porch cabin have bronze tinted glass fronts. Plain barrels and the beam cabin have only glass doors, while rear windows frame views behind the bench.

Should I choose an electric or wood burning heater?

SaunaLife electric packages include controls and stones and need an electrician. Golden Designs cabins come with a Harvia stove and stones in the box. Wood burning needs a chimney and tending, but no power. Call us to match a heater to your outdoor sauna kit.
