How to choose your propane grill

Choose a built-in propane grill for an island or a freestanding propane grill on a matching cart. Heads run from 24 to 54 inches, with most at 30, 36 or 42 inches. Measure your island cut-out or cart space before choosing.

Match the features to how you cook. You'll find two to five main burners, and many grills offer sear and rotisserie options. Check which extras are available, whether you want a side burner, smoker box or griddle plate.

For outdoor cooking with both fuels, consider a gas and charcoal grill that uses either in the same firebox. For a flat cooking surface, browse our 15 propane griddles.

If your plans change to a home gas line, browse the same grills ordered as natural gas grills.

Questions we hear most

Propane or natural gas, which should I pick?

They cook the same, so choose by your yard, not the food. Propane needs no gas line and lets you move the grill, but tanks need refilling. Natural gas requires a line to the grill but doesn't run out.

Can I use a propane grill indoors or in a garage?

No. These grills are for outdoor use only, in open air. Keep them away from walls, railings and overhangs, and never use one indoors or in a garage.

What size propane grill do I need?

Heads range from 24 to 54 inches, with two to five burners. A 30- or 36-inch head suits most families; choose 42 inches or more for hosting. Measure the island cut-out or the space where your cart will stand before choosing.
