What is a direct vent fireplace like the Ascent X 42?

A sealed gas appliance that exhausts outside and pulls combustion air from outside through one coaxial pipe. The BX42 therefore needs no chimney, doesn’t consume room air, and installs into a standard framed wall.

Does the Ascent X 42 work if the electricity goes out?

Yes — battery backup on the ignition lets you light it during an outage, keeping 30,000 BTU of heat available exactly when the furnace can’t run. The blower resumes with the power.

How much gas does the Ascent X 42 use?

Around 0.30 therms per hour at its 30,000 BTU maximum — typically 45 cents or so per hour at average U.S. natural gas rates.

What are the Ascent X 42’s framing requirements?

Minimum framing runs 42.50 in wide x 41.25 in high x 18.50 in deep; the unit is 42 x 34.50 x 18.50 in with a 34.50 x 20.25 in viewing area. Verify with the manual in the Catalogs and Manuals tab before framing.

How much space can the Ascent X 42 heat?

No. It is engineered exclusively for its gas burner system — wood, pellets, or paper would be hazardous and void the warranty.

Record any damage or missing pieces directly on the delivery receipt.

Do not discard damaged item(s) or any original packaging. For severe damage, write “Refused due to damage” on the delivery receipt and contact us immediately.

Report any damage within two business days, including delivery details and photos showing the issue

Damaged item(s) must be returned within 30 days. Failure to return them will result in a charge to the original payment method.
