Does the Napoleon Elevation X 36 require a chimney or existing flue?

No chimney is needed. As a direct vent unit, the Elevation X 36 uses sealed venting run through a side wall or roof. That makes it practical for new construction and for rooms that never had a fireplace, unlike traditional vented gas logs.

How do you turn on the Elevation X 36?

It uses an electronic ignition system operated from the included control — there is no standing pilot to keep lit. Press the ignition control and the burner lights; flame height can then be adjusted to suit the room.

How much does the Elevation X 36 cost to run?

Its 37,000 BTU maximum input works out to about 0.37 therms of natural gas per hour, or in the neighborhood of 50–60 cents per hour at average U.S. rates. Running it at a lower flame setting reduces that further.

What size opening does the Elevation X 36 need?

How hot does the glass on the Elevation X 36 get?

Very hot — the ceramic glass front of any operating gas fireplace can exceed 400°F and stays hot after shutdown. Like all modern direct vent units, the Elevation X 36 comes with a protective safety barrier, and the manual lists required clearances for mantels and combustibles.
